Andrew Demko Modded Spartan

That settles it. Your my hero. I guess I'll have to rethink the knives I decide to use based on your preferences.
I quite frankly don't give a flying ..... what YOU think of the knife I may or may not carry. I take a large size glove and have been weight training without break since you were 4. I doubt that my hand size or strength has anything to do with it. If you think the knife opens easily good for you. Now how about getting a life and picking a fight over something actually worth getting your panties in a bunch over.

BTW this is exactly why this forum has a reputation for idiotic exchanges.

Hard to argue with that...

Helo, Phil. It's cool to see you here on Bladeforums. So...anyone else had Demko modify a production knife? I've heard whispers of custom blades for factory CS knives.

I sent him a BM630 I modded back in 06. It had several stripped threads and some hardware was missing. He made a full Ti backspacer and bored out the screws from 2-56 to 4-40. He also replaced the stop pin and brought the lock back to NIB specs. He topped it off with a deep bead blast.

Be careful in closing the Spartan, one of my friends nearly chopped his thumb off doing so (he seriously did, had to go to the emergency room, get stitches, the whole 9 yards).

That's. Why I cut a large choil on mine.

If you look at my Spartan, it's the half circle cut out where the full thickness of the blade becomes an edge.

Thank you, never really had a need to know because everything I have (right now) is either fixed, already has one, or has a flipper (which helps for how I hold it to close).

Also thought I would mention that both of the Spartans (Demko and CM) look REALLY nice, and really make me want one. Think I will have to seriously look at getting one now.

When you get one and need work done... well don't be a stranger ;)

True enough. The handle material makes the knife look a bit like a toy. On the other hand that's really what I like about it. It looks , in many ways, like a cheap piece of junk when in fact it is STUPID strong and just about as close to a fixed blade as you are going to get. When it comes right down to it I don't really care how it looks. The important thing is how it performs. The only knife that would probably serve my puposes better would be a (four times the price) Emmerson Super CQC8. That's only because, while the Spartan waves well, it doesn't flick easily and can't be reasonably be opened with one hand. The Emmerson can be waved, flicked or "one hand" opened. Sadly, In terms of strength the Emerson would actually be a step backwards (at four times the price!).

The resistance to flicking are one of the reasons I really like the Triad lock. In Washington state, the cops can charge you with possession of a dangerous weapon if they can open your knife without using the thumb stud. If any hurclean effort can open it with a wrist action, they can charge you with possession of a dangerous weapon.

I need to send in Demko a Black Rhino for a new lock bar with a design that keeps the lock spring from drifting forward and hitting the edge of the knife.

The other triad lock designs don't seem to have this same issue (my Recon 1 has a hump in the lock bar that specifically keeps this from happening).

I can flick them extremely easily.
And the thumb plate makes one hand opening VERY easy. I don't see why you'd have any issue with it.

Ok... I stand corrected. I was fooling with my Spartan after leaving on the shelf for a while (while I played with a newly acquired Manix C95) and noticed that it is indeed relatively easy to open one handed. The problem I was having before was that I was putting pressure on the thumb plate at the wrong angle. Once I changed the angle of pressure to something directed more to the top of the knife (instead of outwards) it opens no problem.
