Android vs. IPAD ? What to choose? Advice needed.

I carry a netbook with me most of the time, and tether it to my HTC Desire Android phone.

Works great.

That being said, I will probably buy an ipad when my netbook quits. However, my Android phone has been able to do everything I need it to do, including accessing a couple of secure websites I use in my emergency service work. I used to have a Blackberry, and while it did fantastic with email, it sucked big time for web, and I could not access the secure websites.

My Desire does fantastic for web, email (including enterprise server access), and calender, ect. You guys using Blackberry's for work should look at the Androids.

My Blackberry became a frisbee after I used the Android for a week. :)

I have a Nexus 1 (phone) and the most current OS version is 2.2.1. There is much talk on the android forums that a new update 2.3 is coming out this week along with the announcement of a Nexus 2.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Nexus 1, but if you want an android tablet, I would wait until they become more popular as to work out the kinks.

I agree. I went and played with the ones they have today, and they seemed a little slow. I'll wait for either a newer Android tablet or Gen2 of the IPad.

Both seem to have some issues that should be worked out in the later versions.

Thanks.

I've been up in the air about this one also but for me it's been trying to decide more between a Droid tablet or netbook. I like the iPad but I guess it'll be more limited in what I want. I'm also not crazy about having to get a data plan (I know I can go Wi-Fi only but I'd like to be able to surf where and when I want).
I've already got a data stick which I can plug in to a netbook when I'm on the road and don't have access to wi-fi. Right now I'm strongly considering the Asus Eee PC 1215N 250GB Premium 12.1" Netbook and would have bought it today but my supplier won't have it til next week some time. Kinda sucks cuz I was hoping to take it with me to Punta Cana later today (Monday). I think I'll eventually get some form of tablet in the next year or so too.

Looked at the iPad, looked at clones, bought an iPod Touch. Will pick up something larger in a year or two when the market matures. Wanted a portable, pocketable, ebook reader that would play a decent game of backgammon. Got a bunch of WiFi internet capability to boot.
