I have been reading about Busse knives on bladeforums.com for a longtime now and recently sold one of my recently aquired knives to purchase a knife I have been eyeing for a while: a Busse Steel Heart.

I called Mr. Prisco last week to find out what he had in stock and to find out if he still had the "nuclear tough" Busse Steel Heart Varient I had been eyeing before Christmas.
The knife has a 4" clip point, a 7.5" blade, and 1.5" of large tooth serrations.
I ordered the knife and told my fiancee it would be the "last knife of the year." (see "My wife is PISSED" thread)
It arrived at her place yesterday (Mr. Prisco sent it express! I didn't know they deliver on Sunday!)
Thank God!
The knife is now my #1 Survival tool...
If Y2K had hit and been serious, this is the knife I would have wanted...
Big enough to chop, clip point for penetration and tip control, serrations for sawing/rope work...the list goes on...
INFI is great and Mr. Busse is an truely an artist...the knife is beautiful and "nuclear tough!"
Thanks Mr. Prisco and Mr. Busse for the service and product...
Jess

I have no way of showing it on the 'net. Andy has a picture of the knife that he sent to my email. If you email me (crowinghorse@yahoo.com) I may be able to send the picture to you...
It really is great...
Cliff,
I have heard you have done some testing of Busse knives. Where can I find your page?
Thanks
Jess

Crowinghorse, you can post the photo at http://www.photopoint.com for free if you want to. I'd be interested in seeing it, too, if you have the time to post it. BTW, Cliff's website is in his profile.

Welcome to the world of Busse, Horse. There is room for Mad Dog and Busse huh

They both make great knives and each caters to a different market.

Also I am building Andy's web site so look for it soon. It will be at www.sharperintsinct.com so book mark it now for future reference.

Thanks for all your kind words on this forum as well as the Good, Bad, Ugly forum too, Jess...I really appreciate it and am grateful.

As I said in an e-mail to you, I'm glad that you're so pleased with your purchase, but I'm not surprised

Jerry's knives are well received around the world, particularly by military personnel. Thanks for your service to our country.

Mike IS building me a really cool website, so stay tuned...the logo he and Spark did for me already is nothing short of awesome. I'm really excited to see it when it is done.

He did forget to use spell check however, before he included my domain name in his post above

It's www.sharperinstinct.com

Be Well and thanks again Jess and Mike.

Mr. Turber,
I actually think the Busse is a BIT more knife than the Mad Dog.
smile.gif

I am very glad I was turned on to Busse via Bladeforums.com.
I owe a few people appologies for my attitude in the past, but I am a changed man. The Mad Dog ATAK is a beautiful, well balanced, utility/fighting knife, but the Busse Steal Heart (mine is a one-of-a kind varient-if I am correct)is a tree choppin', hole diggin', burly, mean, angery, and down right ugly KNIFE...and I love it!
(my varient is beautiful, Mr. Busse...thanks)

I was reading in the b.f.s year 1 someone said the ATAK is a "blue shark" ready to strike at any time and the Steel Heart is a "Lumberjack" who works all day and is never tired...

I cut down a small tree in three strokes with the Busse...
me and G.W. have more in common
I leave for MCRD S.D. in 5 days and look forward to carrying all of my knives while in the service...not all at once of course

Crowinghorse,

That is perhaps the best compliment I have had in a long while. Thank you!

This site is here first and foremost to educate. I am not here to convert, only to tell it like it is. I have always said that Mad Dog makes an excellent knife.

Stick around and get access, however you can, when you get in. You ain't seen nothing yet

Take care and have fun. This will be one of the most important parts of your life. It will not be easy and you will be under a lot of pressure. Don't let it get to you as it is only meant to make you a stronger person. I know I was there myself. Have fun!

PS... When you get in put the Busse through hell. Don't worry as Jerry will back it up with a KICK ASS warranty!

Crowinghorse, thanks for the picture. One question, is the serration pattern rounded or kept square at the corners?

The review of the Busse Basic #7 was posted in the review forum :

http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/001102.html

It is about 9/10 completed. There were a couple of the harder tests left out and I will do them after a couple of people are finished looking at the blade. That review also links to a review in progress of my Battle Mistress.

The serrations are left square.
IMO, it helps in the "sawing" of branches, trees, etc...
Thanks for the link...

Yeah Busse is definitely awesome. I have done so many things with my Busse knives that not many others could compare to. My Combat basics # 7 (in a2) could out perform my madd dog shrike in virtually any aspect and not only does the srike suck(compared to most knives) but it costs $390. I know this forum is about Busse but i just want to get the fact that madd dog sucks off of my chest. I cant believe anyone could spend so much money on such a poor quality knife and even worse some people have even done it more than once by buying multiple madd dog knives. You would think people would figure out the first time. Its a good thing i didnt buy two. the worst part is that i cant get rid of this poor tempered, brittle hunk of junk. i have tried selling it but every one seems to know how much they suck so no one will buy it. i dont blame them. i feel sorry for the person/people that like madd dog for anything other than a paperweight. the chrome plating is also said to be pretty crappy in the fact that rust gets under it. i have not personally seen the effect of this partly because it is sitting in the bottom of my closet(that is all it is good for).the first time i used it the edge chipped just a little bit.
To tell you all the truth, my neighbor has a Franklin mint knife that is more useful and more worthy of being called a knife.

i hope this helps any unsuspecting fourmites looking to buy a madd dog for the purpose of using it as a knife. My advice is get a butter knife from your kitchen and save yourlef the trouble and money.

have a nice day

Nice rally Horse! Good luck with the military, I hope at some point you are able to carry any or all of the knives you wish while on duty. IUBI, although I agree with some of your observations, that was an ugly post amongst all the other positive ones

. Had to chuckle about the Franklin Mint comparison - OUCH.

I suppose it's expecting too much for a Busse thread which doesn't eventually include some customary MD bashing.

UIBI -- You're entitled to your opinions, but you might try toning down the flamewar rhetoric. Suffice to say that there are many good folks who still regard MD knives highly and would appreciate your Shrike -- try posting it for sale here, at Knife Forums, and (yes, even) at Tactical Forums. I'll bet you'll have some takers in short time -- but not by saying you'll feel sorry for them. Stick to the high road and give it a go -- you'll be rid of an unsatisfactory knife, get all or most of your money back, and make someone happy, to boot.

On another note: I didn't know that the Basics line was ever made in A2. UIBI, can you elaborate? Unless I'm mistaken, you have -- pleasant surprise and congrats! -- a "modified" INFI blade!

Storyville,

I thought that before busse had their infi it was a2. it is an old knife.

IUBI, the custom Busse line was in A2 until it switched over to INFI. The Basic line, AFAIK, was never offered in A2, only the modified INFI.

I also think that many of us would appreciate a more, um, judicious tone when discussing Mad Dogs or comparing them to Busses. Mad Dog does make a good knife, simply not the one which I, myself, prefer, due to materials and pricing. This is just my own personal opinion, and you are surely entitled to yours, but re-igniting an old flame war here, I don't think, would be appreciated by neither other forumites nor the moderators.

I would just like to add what a pleasure it is to to business with Mr. Prisco. When I found out he was recieving a Busse shipment I asked to rexerve two and he said no problem. However, I didn't know that at the time he didn't accept credit cars which is the only way my dad will pay for such things and so I couldn't ask him to reserve the blades for me but he said he would until he accepted credit cards. He then notified me as soon as he started accepting credit cards and I (well actually my dad) placed the order monday and I should recieve them within a week. I might add there is always a bit of fear that one will be rejected when one tells a dealer you are a kid but Mr. Prisco still treated me better than expected.
I can't wait to add these two blades to my Busse family--you know the BM is the dad, the SH the mom, and the two smaller ones the kids--this maybe a weird thought but hey its a snowday and I have nothing better to do.

thanks and take care
collin
