Where can I get some Anhydrous Lanolin?

Squeeze some wool real hard and dont add water :)

Just kidding Brian. Havent the foggiest.

last time I tried that it made me all itchy in the wrong places...:o

Indian George knows where to get it but hell if I do....

wonder if just mineral oil would work as a replacement...

here is what am after.....

Use
3 parts Johnson's Paste wax
Mix with enough turpentine to make a thick liquid...NNo need to heat it

Melt 2 parts Bees wax and mix in

Add 1 part Anhydrous Lanolin.

I use this on wood and metal. After shooting and cleaning my muzzle loaders, I use it on the whole thing.

It is one of the best rust inhibitor/wood preservative I've found and it is great on bead blasted surfaces.
It fills in the pores and gives you a smooth, non glare, rust resistant finish.

I do not know if it is Anhydrous Lanolin but you can get 100% lanolin cream at a most drug store or places that sell baby stuff. I got some to put on my horn handle Khukuris. The one I got was called "Nipple Cream" it was for for breast feeding mothers. Just go in and ask for that stuff for your sore nipples. ;) :p

nice!! This could be a fun surprise while I am out shoping with the wife!!!

A good nipple slip is always fun....

Thanks Raymond. There is a TractorSupply Store right at the house.

Hows the new Floor?

There's an online bulk source mentioned 3rd post of this thread:

also some tech references re anhydrous lanolin

Commonly sold in quantity for do-it-yourselfers
for soapmaking & skincare recipes.

Order thru any pharmacy, but fairly expensive compared to bulk.

Try your local druggist. He uses it for compounding various ointments. Shouldn't need a prescription.

Damn!!! You’re allergic to wool too??? I told you to leave them sheep alone. :D :D

I get mine at the drug store -- works great for resizing cartridge cases for re loading. I have found that beef tallow mixed with toilet ring wax works very well in muzzle loaders as a patch lube in cold weather and now we use it as a bullet lube for both smokeless and black powder. Being Scotch helps in thinking up inexpensive useful things :D

FWIW, I like this mix of stuff to wax blades and handles:

1/3 anhydrous Lanolin (great rust inhibitor)
1/3 filtered/purified beeswax
1/3 mineral oil

Heat in the microwave and stir. After it hardens it will stay mixed. Apply a little with a finger and buff with a rag. Really adds a deep shine to stabilized woods too. And it's non-toxic.

Steve

good stuff. BTW -- where are you guys getting this beeswax?

tallow mixed with toilet ring wax

HMMMMMM...Pete, are they still making toilet rings from beeswax? That never occurred to me even though I knew they did use it for a very long time...Duh
