Animal Attack!!!

Got attacked by a friends Great Pyrenees as I was entering through their gate to go tell them that I was heading to their back pasture to go shooting. They always have lots of dogs which bark and carry-on, but are always friendly. I knew I was in trouble after it chomped onto my left leg and started shaking it's head (somewhat reminiscent of a shark). I had my Leek clipped in my right front pocket, but didn't think to grab it, wish I had, though the damage was already done. I ended up with a pretty good laceration, which still is hypersensitive over a year later. And, the dog later attacked another woman and tore her up pretty badly. It now is doing guard duty at a lumber mill.

I lived for 20 years, six month at the time, in the Swedish mountains far above the Arctic Circle, I never used my knife for defense against any animal what so ever. I meet bears and other wild animals normal for this area of Sweden, not every day of cause, but normally I see bears 1-2 times per month – and tracks made by them 2-3 times per week.

I live thins25 years out in the woods in the middle of Sweden. Here lives all the animals who are normal for this area, moose, elks, deer’s, bears, lynx, Wolfe’s, and so on. (Today I followed a bear track some hundred meters).

Normally wild animals do not like contact with human beings – so they go away if the can, or hide during the time we passes by.

It is very seldom people be attacked by wild animals. Three times in my life have I been “attacked” by moose. It takes about three hours before they give up. Two times I clime up in a tree, one time I clime a big stone – and waited for three hour… so, I am more “afraid” of moose then of bears…

My dog was attacked by two pits both bigger than her. She was holding her own until the second got there. I went up to the larger of the two pits and hit it with my 3 d cell maglite. It yelped and ran and the other followed. Their owner came the next day wanting me to paythe vet bill for his dogs broken ribs. All the while I had abk11 around my neck. (I don't like killin animals if I'm not gonna eat em)

I had a female boxer pup once. We were walking on the beach, and, all of a sudden, I abruptly noticed an adult male boxer charging us on full throttle, mad as hell.
I tried to block it's path, but it got past my legs and went in for the kill. But, it's bite missed my pup, because it couldn't brake to where it intended, due to the sand and the speed of the charge.
My pup panicked and screamed like a stuck pig, whilst throwing herself away and onto her back. Before the charging boxer could get to my pup again,
I reacted and grabbed hold of it over the neck and back and threw it away from me in a pendulum action with all my might toward the shore. It got up and looked for directions, then ran away and my pup was safe.

Klute , there used to be a good number of feral dogs in Bliss/Owl's Head Park in Bay Ridge. One gun owner always took his revolver when walking his dog there !!
If you can't carry a gun pepper spray and a large knife are the best defense.
