anyone do anything unique?

you see ivory a decent amount, bones sometimes, antler quite a bit, anything else?

I'd like to see some good use of animal parts in some knives...(any and all types)

Some states have pretty harsh laws concerning the use of animal parts. Tennessee, for example, frowns upon the use of a bear jaw for a handle. Don't ask me how I know that :o
That was several years ago so maybe the law has changed.

As Kit said always double check your state and local laws. The Dept of Wildlife or whatever it is called can give you the skinny. Bear jaws and others are legally sold by several companies such as www.hideandfur.com and www.boonetrading.com so they can usually inform you before purchasing as well.

I have also seen a couple of fox jaw knives. Fox are considered vermin
In Australia and the government still pay a bounty for the tales in some states.
I think victoria is one state. They may have a web site. Or even the sporting shooters association may be able to help with sending you some.

You know what this means don't you? There's a whole lot of foxes without tails running around Australia. :D

I picked up these at the fossil show in Tucson earlier this month.Because they are cave bear from Europe and cave bears are extinct there is no law against using them. My friend who I picked them up for cannot use them. I would let them go for what I paid for them.I would like to see a folder using a tooth split in half keeping the shape of the tooth. The longest tooth is over 4 inches long.

Chuck,

You have mail. If I can swing the cost and if they are still available I take them.

I would like to make a Persian keeping the original shape of the tooth. I will be happy to let a tooth or two go to a folder maker for my calculated share of the cost.

Animal parts are a taste thing. Some poepl are attracted to the scent of a nice antler handle, some are positively disgusted by anything that has to do with hunting, taking of animal life etc. Don't ask me, I like the stuff.

You cou8ld get imaginative. One of the biggest problems in eg.- Australia is being able to actually GET the materials. Even importing smooth white bone from the USA is at times "iffy" because of the whole foot and mouth, mad cow disease scare. So far so good but when customs even bothers to check, let alone confiscate your bottle of epoxy because the label says "flammable" you know its going to be a challenge.

About the foxes in Australia. Don't care how you take a fox, I wish you'd shoot them first / as well. They are a real menace to the environment.

Cheers.

Well, I just ordered one tooth and a jaw. The jaw is going to be wild, especially for me. I'm going to have to deviate a lot from my customary conservative nature for that knife. The tooth will become a Bird & Trout. I know I first mentioned I wanted to use a tooth for a Persian but after speaking with Chuck (akivory) I think not now. The jaw is going to be - I don't know yet for sure. I am anxiuos to see and hold it. Then I think I'll get a picture of the knife it will become.

P.S., For anyone not knowing Chuck Leake yet (akivory) you will do yourself a disservice by not contacting him if you are interested or in the future will be interested in Mammoth ivory and the such.
