I am now a full time Knifemaker and taking orders. On the 24th of May, a large group of people, including myself, were laid off by my ex-company.

I have thought about and wanted to go full time for years, but was always a little afraid. My ex-company helped me make that decision.

I still have a few back orders, so at this time I can't say if I have a four month or six month back order. I've never been able to spend 50 to 60 hours a week in my knife shop. I really have no idea how many knives I can produce in a month.

As most of you know, for the last year or so, I have being taking names of people that wanted to order a knife. I have been contacting them for the last week. If you have not heard from me, please contact me at
at-barr@att.net.

The same goes for anyone that has placed an order. I have received several emails back, due to incorrect email addresses.

I have several new knives on my website in the 2 1/2" and 2 15/16" size. Check them out when you have a chance.

Sincerely,

A.T.

I hope things work out for the best, A.T. I am certain that there will be many people thrilled to see you taking orders and increasing your output. I must say that I find your website very informative and refreshingly honest (pics need a little work

). Your small drop point folders in jigged bone are simply gorgeous, and are as close to my definition of a gent's knife as I have seen.

A.T.:

The same thing happened to me a while back. You'll be surprised at how much you can get done when all you need to do is make knives!

After seeing your latest knives at the Blade Show, I doubt if you're going to get bored!

A.T. as we discussed on the phone your notification to me that you were about to start my knife was a HUGE thrill.

With the quality of knives you make I don't think you will have any problem selling knives full-time. I'm sure everything will work out fine, look at it as a blessing in disguise.

Great to hear from you and best of luck in your "new" full-time passion!!

A.T. for what it is worth, I think things will go well and am anxious to see good things come out of this oportunity for you. All of your knives that I have ever handled have been solid and very well made.

Good luck on the new full time venture, but watch out for the boss

I am on your list and I'd like to place another order.

Very excited.

Hi A.T.,

best of luck to you, in my experience sometimes unexpected things turn out to be very positive. I remember leaving for what I thought would be a short vacation in Berlin to get away from a bad situation in New York City. That was almost 11 years ago. I never went back. Things have gotten better ever since.

Obviously you are a very accomplished knifemaker. Keep at it man! And when you think about your old job remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech: "...free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty I'm free at last..."
