Announcing the NEW 15080BK-191 Gold Class Crooked River!

Ok folks, (understandably) not a cheap knife. This knife had me thinking though. Like so many of my collector colleagues here, I have far more knives than would ever make sense to a remotely more reasonable person. I'm thinking about the 1, or maybe 2, dads, sons, moms or daughters who gets this knife as their first knife. Maybe they walk into a dealer and happen to see it, fall in love with it and gift it, and it ends up the recipients only knife, or maybe one of only a couple, AND, it actually gets carried and used regularly. I can't imagine what it would be like to have only one knife anymore.

Ok, back to work. :-)

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beer holder - apart from that, i dont see the point in these "gold class" products anymore. You can customize your own Crooked River in the BM Custom Shop, even with 20CV, for a fraction of that price. I doubt that there is a market for a "gold class" knife like this. Dont get me wrong - i like BM and i love the BM Custom Shop, got a M4 Grip recently. I wish more manufacturers would head in this direction of online customizing. But that gold class stuff ... oh dear....

At this price, why not put these technologies in the custom knife builder? Someone could put these technologies into a restomod's dashboard/bikes fairing and need a matching knife for himself and the mini for his wife...
But really, who'd a thunk, art from Benchmade? Lets see the team names, come on, and while your at it, some serious pics please.

i certainly is beautiful. would love to have one but i think my wife would end up using it on me

So if I'm seeing that price correctly, I can have one Benchmade and all of the possible QC headaches that it may come with it, OR

2.3 Damascus Sebenza's
OR
3.33 Sebenza 31's
OR
2.85 carbon fiber Sebenza's
OR
2 Shirogorov's

...all pretty much guaranteed to be flawless from the factory.

Can someone please tell me where the value (if any) is in this knife? Very few Gold Class Benchmade knives avoid depreciation, and the ones that hold or gain value do so because they are one-offs like the 7505-132. This CR could almost be made in the custom builder for 1/3 of the price with the exact same blade, and nearly the same CF handle...

It's nice to see a gold class that doesn't look like a seven year old chose the colors (Loco also was good). This one does look really nice.

I thought it was interesting to see the weight is up a bit, probably from the bolster material changing(?)

Well, it's handsome, but I certainly would not pay Shirogorov prices for Benchmade production. What's the backspacer made of?

I will never, ever, understand the point of these gold class knives, more so this one than others after seeing that price. You can already build your own CR with 20cv in the custom shop, how is a few pretty handle colours and trims worth the extra $? My custom Demko in M390 cost less than this...i honestly just scratch my head. I understand the whole "collector" thing and how it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for some knives, but $1500 for essentially a production benchmade with different colour trims? I just can't.

At this price it is a huge reach that many will not spend, Including me. But I believe they will still sell out in no time at all.
