Announcing the NEW 407 Vallation!

Love the styling of this one, especially the blade shape. The weight as well as the assist will likely keep this one out of my hands though.

Again, love the blade but don't like the assisted part.

Many knives are one handed opening. A big attraction of the Axis lock is its smooth, effortless, ambidextrous one handed closing and the assist mechanism screws that all up.

I love the look of it and the assist doesn’t bother me but the weight is a lot. This is the main reason I didn’t get a 570 and waited for the 575

Of all knives on the market, Benchmade needs an assist feature the least. Soon as i see assisted i skip it, regardless of any other positive features. Seriously who needs an assisted knife these days with the smooth action of all modern folders. Also it completely screws up the nice closing action of the axis lock, no thanks.

Being in L/E, just MHO on likes & dislikes for a tactical “Duty Knife” as it is described in the BM literature above:

LIKES:
  • Drop point & mohawk spine
  • Carbide Glass Breaker
  • Milled handle
  • Open & Closed length
  • S30V
DISLIKES:
  • Assisted (manual is fast enoough & can be closed one-handed unlike models w/ an assist)
  • Aluminum handle (gets cold when outside in winter months, shows wear, & with one drop on concrete the handle can look badly beaten.)
  • S30V (I’ve added this under both categories because IMHO, while this is a great all-around steel, just not at this price point. For $250. - $265., I expect more.)
  • Weight

Again, just MHO: Remove the Assist and add Carbon Fiber scales.

I imagine this could: decrease weight, eliminate cold scales in the winter & substantiate the price point.

This one hits a lot of buttons for me.
I’m buying one and re-scaling it to my desire.
S30V - That works just fine
3.7” blade - Perfect
Blade shape - very cool

I am not bothered by either the weight or the assist.

I hate to pile on, but since Benchmade Customer Service is active on the forums (a fact that I am much appreciative of btw), I just have to say that for the life of me I'll never understand the point to an assisted AXIS lock. It takes one of the most ingenious and user friendly lock designs of all time, doesn't improve the quickness of opening for an experienced user whatsoever, and eliminates the convenience of one handed closing...Why?

That being said, I quite like this design otherwise.

The handle looks to be crossed between the grizzly ridge and a rukus, kinda. Cool
