Announcing the NEW 407 Vallation!

Benchmade Benchmade

Does the sloped angle where the clip attaches cause any extra pressure on the frame from the clip? Did you design a brand new clip for this knife to deal with that?

No. It's the same clip. Not sure I entirely understand your question.

I hate to pile on, but since Benchmade Customer Service is active on the forums (a fact that I am much appreciative of btw), I just have to say that for the life of me I'll never understand the point to an assisted AXIS lock. It takes one of the most ingenious and user friendly lock designs of all time, doesn't improve the quickness of opening for an experienced user whatsoever, and eliminates the convenience of one handed closing...Why?

That being said, I quite like this design otherwise.

Thank you all for the questions and feedback. To answer this question, the knife was designed to be easy to open in high pressure situations when the reliability of a spring-assist is essential. This along with the legalities of some states makes the 407 a needed addition to our Black Class product line.

Anyone have this one? What’s it carry like for a big size? Any complaints? And where is the pivot screw under the aluminum?

I carry this one constantly.
Mine needed to be de-assisted & re-scaled in order to bring it to that perfect carry level, for me.
Yes, the pivot is hidden under the scale.
I love that.
I have not had to adjust the pivot at all.

I have the all black combo blade version. It carries well. It has some weight, but it rides narrow in the pocket, and sits low. The only complaint I have is the glass breaker. It is real sharp, and constantly stabs my hand. I'm tempted to grind it down. Yes the pivot screw is under the handle slabs. No adjustment is possible without complete disassembly. With that said mine is rock solid in all directions. The assist isn't all that strong. Just a subtle push to get the blade out. A little thumb push plus the assist makes the blade whip out solidly. The handle slabs are kinda slick. No texturing, or real grip there. The handle lock works as advertised. The blade is super sexy. Wicked sharp with even grinds. Pocket clip is deep carry and is a dark oxide color. Not painted. Ultimately it is one of my favorite knives, and is in my pocket as I write this.

Really wouldn't loved at this $$ point it would've been s90v or m390. Had that been the case I would've added it to my already long list for my new years order.
