Announcing the NEW 980 Turret!

As long as the liners are full length and comparative in thickness to the Adamas, what does it matter? Comparing the dimensions of the Adamas and the Turret, there isn’t a ton of difference between the two. Less than .1 per each dimension. The only thing I see being any semblance of a major factor is the blade thickness being thinner on the Turret.

Benchmade just made a more pocket “friendly” tank. It’s not the prettiest thing but its def more EDC friendly. The Adamas doesn’t feel to big in my pocket but I can see how guys more drawn to slim and lightweight knives would think it’s huge.

Yeah i can understand and agree with all those points too, it's not really a huge deal it's just kind of redundant if you look at it....The crooked river, Loco, Adamas and Presidio 2 all have liners the same thickness or thicker, same with the blade stock. Making this knife a bit lighter and slimmer just makes it pointless, if you want light and slim there are already tons of others with good strength in the BM lineup. If they released it as a proper successor to the Adamas however, it would have some personality and be worth buying, Adamas is huge, but still selling heaps because there is a market for those heavier built knives. Anyways, maybe next year!

I was responding more to the people that are comparing it to the Adamas. I watched the Blade HQ 2019 Benchmade Shot Show video and it was brought up to be the in between of the Adamas and the Rift. It’s shaped and textured like the Adamas but is more slicey like the Rift.

The way I see it, they can’t top the Adamas. The balance is perfect so you can’t really take any material away without making it feel awkward in hand, unless you remove it from both sides of the pivot, kinda like the Turret (huh, how weird). Plus Id rather have D2 as a strong rugged steel over s30v, though I have to argument with how great s30v is. Also, look at the designers. Shane Sibert was a ranger and is known for his overbuilt knives. The Turret is an original Benchmade design, which makes sense that they would make a large folder that’s also slim. It reaches into that corner of the market that just want a big Benchmade like the Adamas but find it too large and clunky, understandably.

I don’t think there’s a whole lot of difference, dimensions wise, between the two and I’m pretty sure they’ll perform the same.

I dig the Turret quite a bit. The Adamas is unquestionably a tank and A+ pry bar, but it cuts about as well as a sack of wet mice. This looks like a big, tough knife, not a breaker bar with a sharp edge. It might be the first Benchmade I buy in quite a long time.

Will a black plain edge option be available ?

Got to handle one yesterday. It wasn't what I was looking for, but getting it in hand, it did impress me. This isn't at all a pocket brick, it's surprisingly compact and a much more 'normal' knife size. Felt very well made and the one I handled had very good F&F. I know this is designed and marketed as a tactical duty knife, but for anyone that just wants a tough work knife with decent cutting geometry this is a good option. Good job Benchmade, I almost walked out of the store with this in my pocket.
