Found this interesting book from 1890. You can purchase a print-on-demand copy on Amazon or download it from Google Books. Google Books is one of Google's specialized search engines. Put Google Books in as a search term, and it will take you there. This book lists the quarries where Arkansas whetstone was mined in 1890, with maps. You can read a description of the book at Amazon. I get into the history of sharpening stones.

First ; do you suppose this was Clark Griswold's Great Grandad ? 🎅 🤣

Secondly I have brought the Hard Translucent Arkansas Stone """Into The Future""" (theoretically) by rubbing 3 micron diamond dust into it and using it as an unslicable strop (can go edge leading if the mood hits you). Mostly for work on high vanadium blades in my Edge Pro Apex .

PS : sure . . . go a degree steeper on the setting . . . or as little as gets you the edge you want .

How does the Hard Ark Black compare to the Belgium Blue and the Blue / Black China stone I have seen here and there recently ?

The Black Ark closely compares to the Belgium Blue. I don't have the China stone. There is a lot of YouTube content that compares different natural stones.
