Anodization for dummies

I have been curious about this process for a while.

Will it work on large galvanized washers? Son in law made up some boxes for washer pitching and just spray painted them, but the paint chips off pretty fast.

would need 3 of one color and 3 of another color.

I'm assuming they are galvanized steel, which unfortunately will not work. Titanium and aluminum are the only materials I know of that can be anodized.

That washer game is fun, a firend of mine had one awhile back. Its hard to find a readily available paint that wont chip in those conditions. I would suggest spraying super light coats of paint with adequate drying time in between coats. A hair dryer or heat gun helps too. It may take up to 5 or more coats, but is better than one wet coat. Then a few coats of clear will help bury the color. Are the tops of the boxes covered in carpet or astro-turf? Good luck with it.

Thanks,,,will try that paint method with mine. Tops of the boxes are just wood. Carpet would soften the blow. But the boxes are made to latch together with a rope handle. I guess the latches could easily be adjusted for the carpet thickness. May try that. But then dont get the crazy bounces of the washers.. Easy enough to spray on another coat of paint as needed.
