Anodized Chris Reeve Knives

Just found this thread. Awesome work, I love the look of that ano on CR knives, don't see it much. Great stuff keep it coming!

Did an Insingo for someone. The front scale is pitted. Both scales are in contrasting flame color shifts. Edge around the lanyard pin and back spacer done in gold.

I just ran across this thread - very interesting! This 1999 Small Regular was anodized golden by the previous owner. I carry it a lot and like the knife more than the color ;)

This one came from the same source - Mnandi #067 from 2001 with blue anodized titan.

Wow I am in love with your regular! Very good looking with the anodized finish, and in general.

Great knives!

Thanks for the support, as always, brother!

Here's a shot one of my customers sent me (same guy who owns my first Sebenza). Good to know how happy he is! I'm thinking I'm still going to do most of my next personal anodized Sebenzas with the CRK blasted finish like my Large 21. I really like the matte look with some color and how it wears in.

One of two Umnumzaans I've done this week. This one belongs to BF member Quiet. Thanks for the images of the knife assembled Forrest! I'll post the other one this weekend.

Posted at a few angles to show the color shift and change in vibrance based on angle.

Hi job, love the contrast, Harris!

Looked like the fingers turned into Li Hing Mui - maybe from gloves!!?? :)

Thanks brother. I appreciate the compliment, knowing your background. I'm just a refinisher, not a true mod guy like yourself and some of the guys around here. Haha, not my fingers! Those would be "Quiet"'s soggy fingers, probably from fondling his redressed baby. He loves that knife, and I couldn't be happier to make yet another guy in the knife community happy with my humble work. :)

hi my friend,
that is pretty, i wonder if you did this just like Lisa did in crk video? that is so cool. are those colors durable for wear? (obviously they are since so many fellows ordered from you) how did you restrict the color in specific area of handle? i cant even imagine it. and here is a thought, maybe you can manage to create a rainbow pattern on the handle, i think that would be awesome.

Hi brother! Glad you got the issue with your Ebony Wood Sebenza solved. To answer your questions, yes the finish is very durable, and I haven't seen Lisa anodize things but as a member of CRK everyone knows she is TOP NOTCH. I can only assume that we are anodizing the same way, which is electro anodizing. I can absolutely do rainbow patterns! They are just not requested very often. I would do it to one of my own knives, but as you can see in the CRK I anodize for myself, I prefer subtlety! Thanks for your comments :)

As for the colors in specific spots...When you are anodizing, you can do one color at one voltage, then move UP in voltage, and the colors will become uniform to the color of HIGHER voltage. You cannot move DOWN in voltage to change the color back to a previous one, however. So, I do the higher voltage colors first, then I sand off the anodizing everywhere except the areas that will be that color. Then I do the next color at a lower voltage so the "bare" spots change color, but the higher voltage color does not. Now with these two colors on the piece, I sand the final areas to expose the bare titanium, and do my last and lowest voltage color.

Excellent work, I really like how the umnumzaan turned out !

I read in the above post that you sand between colors for different areas of the knife to take a different color of anodizing and imagine that it is labor intensive to do so and get the sanding perfect at the transitions. Have you ever tried or though of using some type of nail polish ( or something similar ) at the transitition ? I'm curious to know wether you think it'd work or not.

A buddy of mine from YouTube started his own electro plating a few years ago and told me how to set up a tank, although I never did I have the itch to try it again after seeing your excellent work in this post.

Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for your comments! When I sand off the anodizing, I'm using micro abrasive cloths with polish, so it's not so bad. Another easy way to remove the anodizing would be to use Multi Etch to wipe away at the sections to be recolored. I do this on large surfaces when necessary since I usually have a Multi Etch bath ready from prepping the Ti.

I prefer the cloths because they tend to allow me to get the job done cleaner when I need to be precise.

Thanks for the info and quick reply. If I ever get around to putting that tank together I'll be giving that a try.

Since I finished for now, on my Insingo's mods, finally coming over to join into your started thread on the subject of anodized CRKs.

First off. It is not meant to compete with you or your business - please don't take it wrong!

I do it only for myself and my own personal satisfaction - machining is one of my many passion. :)

Victor, you and anyone else are welcome to share here! Your Insingo looks fantastic! Excellent work my friend, mods, and anodizing alike! My business is strongly rooted now, and competition should be welcomed! I'm just a guy who loves doing what he does, and making others happy with what I do. Money is secondary!! Please share here whatever you want brother!

Edit: I only post the CRK stuff I have anodized in here, so it's not my services thread! Did you anodize the lock side as well?

I'm not normally a fan of holes/divots in the handles but what you've done to that Insingo is very stunning.
I like that you used different sized holes and somehow kept it random but in a pattern all at the same time.

That anodizing is quite beautiful to me. I think that it kind of looks like a lightning storm, which would be a pretty cool name for it that you can feel free to use ;P

Seriously though, thank you for sharing that with us all.
