Anodizing titanium electrically?

so walmart sells a 2 pack of heavy duty rayovac 9v's for 1$, what a deal, i now have 8 of them haha so we shall see what colors i can get. Im stuck right now though, ive got everything ready but i cant get the latch pins out... do i need to remove them? or will it not matter because they are stainless steel?

Ya, and never handle knives either. They're dangerous too!
I'm with ya.

But I hate to see threads devolve, as they sometimes can, so my policy now is a little tighter on this forum.

I'm home now, and my chart doesn't have a nice # written down.
Anodizing is a visual process for me.

I crank up the voltage until I like the color.

I'm pretty sure my bright green comes in at 94v on my rig.

Butch, how do you do that with an etching machine? I have an etch-o-matic,will that work?

Just how hardy is anodizing anyway, I heard it looks pretty crappy pretty quickly.

thanks

here are my results, not too bad at all! in person the blue is much lighter, would still love to get to green someday but that will require a little more investment...

if your etcher has a DC /mark setting not just the AC / etch
you can set it to DC/mark and adjust the volts over the nob

i too do it by looking at the color not a set setting
in my TSP sub. i have to make sure i get it to just before its the color i want as when i wash the parts they go to the next color on the Ti rainbow (just how the light refracts off the Ti when wet and or dry

al this said what im doing is just a stop gap as i am looking at the anodizing rigs now a while but just have not pulled the trigger on one yet (i want green)

The finish isn't super hard (I think it's a bit softer than garnet), but if kept away from abrasives it holds up fairly well. Because the color is from diffraction rather then pigmentation, it will loose a lot of sharpness if something like oil gets on the surface. A quick wash with soap and water will brighten it right back up.
