Another 160OT on Ebay

Yep. That particular Ebay buyer does have a taste for 160 and 165 models. I'd say don't worry... in a year from now you can buy them from him at a fraction of what he's paying.

Well, I've just posted my opinion on the internet, so it's here for all time. But there does seem to be some craziness concerning Schrades right now. Can it last? I just don't think so.

After weeks of thought on the subject, watching Ebay auctions for the fixed blade NIB Old Timers, my take on it is this: The buyers, most of the time, are not die-hard ebayers. They seem to have concluded very few transactions. I am thinking that they may be gun collectors who are putting together a set, or folks adding to a collectible investment portfolio. The former would be long term holders of the knives while the latter were betting on a more near-term turnover, waiting for the market to peak. Perhaps they don't realize they are driving that market?

It seems that, while I have not kept an actual database on it, The NIB that used to sell for 40 is now averaging 120-160. The good user that used to sell for 20 is now selling for 40-80. The rough ones that were 5 to 10 are selling for 20-40.

It would be quite fortunate for me if the market price decline coincided with my peak income time next summer. I played the silver coin and bullion market in the late seventies and early eighties, and I made out like a bandit while others were loosing bigtime (Remember the Hunt Brothers?). I bought early in a rise, held past a peak, bought again on the following decline, held past the depression, and sold on the next peak.

When you think about it, a collector of fine guns might pay 2000 for a single lower grade gun, so paying 200 each for ten knives would be no big deal.

VERY Interesting to watch and speculate on the speculators as a spectator I suspect!!! :D

Fall/winter may be playing in on it too.

My record collecting buddies (you know, those big shiny black disks with RCA and Mercury on them?) tell me that Fall is the sellers market for most items on ebay: people in doors and not moving about as much; while late-spring/early-summer is the buyers market.

I'm watching 162UH's as I'd like to get one for each of my boys. They seem to be up there too.

I just noticed that there's another 160OT on Ebay, used with pitting, 5 days left.
Let's see what happens.

I've never bought or sold on Ebay, but I'm sort of inerested in doing so, knives and other stuff. Maybe some day.

That's AMAZING....especially since I am always looking for old bone handle Schrade Waldens and Schrade Cuts on EBAY, and you can see some real nice ones go for $60 or so.....

Here is a NIB 15OT I have been watching. I'll give it a pass.

Here is a good used one. See what I mean? Maybe I should ebay all my Schrades and buy them back next summer?

It's a tempting thought, isn't it! If it wasn't for the fact that I'm pretty certian I really want to keep mine, I might do it.

POUNCE! Got it for $22.50 and shipping. Now I get to do the reindeer dance! I might even get it before Christmas. Now the sheath hunt begins....unless......did they come with the same sheath as the 165OT?

proud papa of a 160ot.... 164 anyone? :D

As I said already.. Congrats. Thankfully that search is over. Or as we say in Red Sox country OvAh. Take pictures for us of it when you get it and after you clean er up.

So what is on your Xmas list now besides the 164

The 164 will have to wait til after Christmas. And the TRT96 Tennessee River Trapper. And the two Greenie fillet knives. And the 49OT Rhino. And the LB series, have none of those ya know. Well, the 13OT and the 14OT should come before any of the other stuff. And you know that I will have to get another 160OT that needs a rescale job. I dunno...... so many knives out there, so little time! :D

Congratulations on your prize, Codger.
A good knife at a good price; a darn good price judging by what 160OT's have been going for lately.
Good for you.

Thanks Marty, Schrademeister, I let a NIB 164UH go tonight at $99. Let me rephrase that. I let it go at $45 and it sold for $99. It seems that the fixed blade prices are declining somewhat on Schradebay. I did get a 13OT NIB for $45 though. As we saw with the previous user 160OT, the prices seem to be moderating. Used 15OT's are still up there, but not at the record levels we saw. I would not be surprised to see them and the 165's drop back into the range of the 160OT used. Of course, the NIB's will always demand and get a premium because they are like an uncancelled stamp.

Darn.
My stash of 160OT's have plummeted in value.
Is nothing safe anymore.
First Enron, and now this.
Oh Misery.
There go my retirement plans.
Shucks.
Hah.

P.S. It's nice to see a fair and reasonable price coming back to these Schrades so that real Schrade fans, as opposed to rank speculators, can afford and enjoy these great Schrade knives once more.

So there.

I got this NIB 160OT this morning for $46. So the prices are moderating still, but the 15OT's and 165OT's are still bringing good money in good used condition. !52's and 158's are bringing above retail.

Well, this is enough 160's for me. A keeper and a user that I might rescale or keep using as is. "Stick a fork in me I'm done" as pawpaw used to say! :D
