A new one out of the shop today. I started this one a good while back and thought I would finish it for the CLA show in KY a couple of weeks away. 8 1/2" through tang blade of 01, iron mounts, and turned curly maple grip with a little chip carving. 1/8" grip cap with peened tang. Center seam, down the back sheath, has iron collar secured with glue and pins, with a belt or frog hook. All lightly aged. Hope you enjoy a look at it.

As an appreciator of fine Bowies/big blades, I would like to forward my great admiration for your work. It does have a period look And with a few years of honest wear , will look like it is much older than it is. I am particularly fond of the tapered & rolled guard --- realistic for the period/

Thats a very nice period piece, one of the nicest Ive seen. Everything matches perfect!!!

That may be my favorite piece you've made. And I like your work a lot.

One thing I like about it is that it is very clearly well made and finished; just as a quality knife of the period would have been. It doesn't and IMHO shouldn't look like a cheap knife.

Wick,
Your work has a way of just reaching out across time! I did enjoy a look at it, as always your work is flawless. I love the sheath as well. I will have to pick your brain on that one! :)

WoW! Love it, would look rite at home with a nice inlayed and carved flinter:thumbup:

Here you are Caseymz. The collar is 1/32" thick shaped around a steel form, then silver brazed with a butt joint. The main sheath is a flattened center seam.

Wick,
Now that's a beauty ! I'm sure not suprized to see one this good comming from you but thanks for sharing it with us. I was just telling DCknives about your sheath with the seam in the back last week and here is another fine example of that technique for all to see.

I haven't been doing much lately but have ordered some steel and hope to be grinding again soon. I gotta get a few ready for HT and plan a trip up to visit again. Maybe next time I'll bring Dave up with me. We've been talking about trying to get a Central Florida knifemakers get together going but haven't tried to organize anything yet.

Take care- Josh

Thankyou all for your generous comments. Josh, just let me know when you're coming. you are more than welcome.
