another 2-nighter: emberlit stove and happy feet!

Brilliant pictures amigo.

I enjoy seeing how the camp had held up, your experimentation and reviews.

I get the food prep issues with the Spydie. It goes flying all over the shop if you're not careful.
The blade thickness, angle of the grind and it's broad shoulders split rather than slice don't they.

Thanks for taking the time to document and share.

Nice to see pinoys going from tropical to northern woods, now all we need is a desert pinoy camper

indeed. only person i've seen that's close enough is bearthedog - he wears our flag/t-shirt from time to time and have seen more of the philippines than i have! he's got connections there whereas i'd probably get robbed and stabbed as soon as i leave the airport.

Looks like another fun trip.
That compass is a good one.

yeah, him and lmt66 have given me expensive stuff for free!

Awesome photos man, you must be really diggin' that Spyderco. I have my favorite spots to meditate in but to me half the fun is exploring and finding new places, I never camp the same place too many times in a row. As far as I'm concerned a little burned only improves the taste of spam :). We have a lot of hollow trees around these parts too.

that's my favorite knife in that size. i hear yah on exploring (that's how i accidentally found this spot weeks ago while just wandering off trail). it's hard to leave this pile of firewood so quickly though knowing i spent several hours hauling it all by myself back to camp.

with that said, the emberlit is a game changer for me! i can now camp at practically any spot without worries of fuel (i have a snowpeak stove but i'm more of a camper than a hiker so for me cooking over an open fire is the top priority on my trips). i'm planning a group camp out this april too so it's a good timing so i'll leave the rest of that pile for my friends and move on to a different spot next trip.

Awesome pics!!

thanks!

That looks great! One of things i miss most, when doing multiday trips are fresh fruit and veggies. I thought for a second, that you gave up on spam, but sure enough - spam content found at the end :D

By the way, why does the Bushcraft suck at food prep? I mean, it gets the cutting chores done right?

Thanks for taking us along.

thanks! ditto on the fresh fruit and veggies. i happen to leave the house a little later than usual and the bagel shop i usually stop-by had them prepared already so i snagged one up.

yes, the bushcraft cuts...maybe it's just because i prefer more of a chopping style when it comes to my food prep :p gotta have spam! although i must say though that i'm about to go below 170 lbs with all the hiking/biking i've been doing this past 2 yrs. people might think i'm severely overweight with all the spam pics in my threads!

good stuff man.... i do have an issue with the spam too LOL.. gross. mystery meat in a can... yes i am from the souf and yes this ole southern boy will not eat spam. ever

thanks! spam is indeed an acquired taste. it's high in calories and salt and there's really no need to cook it - perfect outdoor fuel for those of us who like it...maybe try dousing it with hot sauce? :D

Nothing wrong with soot on your food! Just adds flavor.

I really want to get one of these emberlit stoves. I didn't realize he made them in titanium now.

but i'm a spam connoisseur (i had to google that word for the spelling, lol). i like mine with just the right crispiness on the outside but still moist in the inside :D

thanks! i guess it's good that the bushcraft isn't good at slicing. my friends already roll their eyes when they see me use my woods knife in the kitchen, no doubt adding another one will inevitably get me kicked out of the food prep stage...some people are just too obsessed with germs...i mean i did wash the machete first before doing this :D

Downmat for the win! I have a 9 DLX and 7 XS and they're just great. Been lookin at that new hobo. Is that the SS or Ti stove? I might go with SS to save cash but paid more than 20 bucks to save 5 oz in the past so not sure. Fenix lights are nice as well. Great looking camp.

thanks! the downmat was an impulse buy then i did some research and saw one of your vids with it - i knew i made a good choice :) it's the stainless steel. i don't mind the weight but it's heavier than i expected (it feels light when it's assembled though if that makes any sense, lol) - that might influence your decision.

Looks like an awesome trip! Definitely thinking about picking up an Emberlit. What kind of pot is that? Looks like the perfect cooking combo.

thanks! yeah, the emberlit is awesome. the pot is a 775 ml msr stowaway. the handle folds and locks the lid down tight and you can make a small wired hook so you can hang it over the fire too...i really like it.

Hey JV3, that looks like a simple piece of clothes hanger wire...brilliant! I had some flexible wire that wasn't working too well to balance it out...

Really enjoying your monthly trip posts JV3,thanks for all the great pics & gear reviews.
Thanks to you & everyone else that have posted about them,I have an Emberlit stove now & can't wait to get out & use it,
but I'm going to wait for the snow to melt away from my camp site. :o
Lookin' forward to the next trip.

thanks! yup, clothes hanger wire from the dry cleaner works perfectly. a little trial and error on the right length to make it form into a triangle. i'm now looking into sweatshops in china to make these in bulk and make meeeeelions :p

thanks and you're welcome! snow, oh man, if only i can order that stuff!

Thanks JV3...I asked the wife to watch the Emberlit stove video and now were adding one to the pop-up..We used to do tons of car camping with our tents, now we drag around a pop-up all summer and enjoy day hikes...The pop-up came with a propane stove and we have a charcoal grill for backup..Now the Emberlit will be backup #2..It definately fires up way faster than a charcoal grill and will allow us to have a campfire even on rainy days stuck under our awning...

I'm a big gear/knife/gun NUT and I love when I can show the wife a new camping gadget that works,"AND SHE SAYS GET IT"..
CD

EDIT- He has a larger family size stove in the works..Thats the one I want, can't wait..
