I can't understand why the Blade West folks don't just rename their Best Bowie award the Ray Richard award, since he's won it 27 consecutive years or the like.
Ray's heart is bigger than his bowies. He once practically donated a very special hunter to an old man living in a garage with a dirt floor. But I've often pondered if this was pure charity for me or Ray's utter contempt for small knives. In case you are unaware, Webster's new definition of futility is attempting to prod Ray into accepting an order for a sub-10 inch blade, which he calls neckers or miniatures.
The recent outbreak of jungle charity in Nicaragua and now Uganda along with the ABS cancer bowie shows that BF is more than just a materialistic sink.
For what it's worth, you've also won my award, my friend. May your tribe increase.
Thanks for the kind words! As some of you have noticed I disappeared. I was disappointed in what I was reading a few months back and no longer wanted to be a part of what was happening. Life as a lurker began.
I haven't taken the time to look around but I don't think anyone else mentioned the other award getter's at Blade West. Our buddy Shane I think won two awards for something tactickle, the hairy Bill Burke won best mini and and sword with a real sword I might add. And of coarse Tom Ferry, Jon Christenson, and Dave Lish won my best fighter award I was planning on winning. You turkey. I've known Dave for a few years now and I've never seen anyone become a great knife maker as fast as he is going.
Shane, Thanks for starting this thread!
I forgot to mention Jon also got Best of Show I believe for a folder. All the guys that won awards do amazing work! I just try to make simple look good.
