So I sell some production knives via ebay. So far so good I have had few if any problems. I also auction off all types of stuff that once has lead to the unpaying buyer syndrome.

Anyway, I get a BUY IT NOW for one of my Model 10 karambits last week.

Cool, I get an email stating from a Mr Craig Brown (who's account it is) that he can't wait! and he will send payment via money order asap. That he's been a fan of my work for what he's seen online and is looking forward to owning the knife(signed Craig Brown). I am very flattered and pleased. So, 2 days go by and I actually forget about the sale.

I get an email through ebay stating that he had left his account on his computer and a "family member" used it to purchase the knife and he will not be buying the knife.

Okay, I am always skeptical of stories online so I just say please answer a couple questions.

How exactly did this happen?

Who was it?

That's basically it. Next I get an email saying I am interrogating him etc....

That automatically sounds fishy to me. Like someone with something to hide. The way I see it is if you have nothing to hide and are truly sorry about a misunderstanding you would have no problem answering any questions pertaining to the incident in question.

Anyway, not a big deal so I just ask if he could pay the listing fee of $2.40 instead and we can call it a day.

Needless to say he rants on about how I am trying to squeeze money out of him, etc. Asks if I have kids(I do) and i should know what they are like if I do but it's obvious I "don't".

Asks what I do for a living "besides sell on ebay"(derogatory connotation), etc. That what I am asking is not businessman-like or something to that effect,.

So, I tell him he's taking it too personally and since he mentioned kids and that it was his son(who he spoke to over the phone and admitted it), I merely say since your son is of the age to own a phone I presume he's old enough to be accountable, why not refer your son to me directly since he's the one who did this. Pass my email on to him instead.

Next day I get an Irate email (after he read my reply about what i do for a living and I guess maybe a web search?), he tells me (in a threatening manner) about how we (in Brooklyn) think it's okay to take our kids out in the back alley and beat them(to that effect) to make them pay for what they did. Meanwhile I never said any such thing. Nor implied it.

Tells me about "one of" his "degrees in Psychology" and no "Brooklyn-ese back alley" Psycho bable will work on him....LOL

So he then stereo types me, insults me and where i come from. Claims I wanted him to beat his kids and am trying to intimidate 2 bucks and change from him(because I answered his question about my professions- Bouncer/Knifemaker)....LOL

All the while butchering the English language (something highly edu-mah-kated people do often).

So I see I'm not getting anythig but abuse from this guy. I let him have it rather politely. Without profanity and just questioning his whole story. About himself, his kid, his many degrees and the "blackbelt" he hold in some martial art of many years.

Saying essentially that the need to tell me about your blackbelt after insulting me, only shows me his Neurosis and someone with a degree in Psych should know better than to wear theirs on their sleeve. That his Martial Art prowess means nothing to me especially as an attempt to do what he claimed I was doing which was "intimidation".

Then I leave negative feedback.

Man, I hate leaving negatve feedback. :(

Other than my transaction with him, his small history at ebay is good. But seller beware, he's an ornery:grumpy: fella this Craig Brown from San Diego eBay Member: yes2heaven

I had a very similar thing happen to me with a tops folder. the guy made 3 bids and his 3rd bid was the winner. I gave him a few days to make payment as i always do, then i gat an e-mail from him telling me his kid was was the one bidding, over the 7 day auction. this e-mail also said there has been trouble at home with his kid taking knives to school, cash is a bit tight bla bla bla.

so i asked him some questions as to how this happened, i get a responce similar to the one you got, telling me i clearly didnt understand the situation there going through with there kid and it was not his fault, but he would ask his wife if it was ok to pay the cash this time !!!!
After that i just had enough lies and BS so i gave it to the next bidder and forgot about him. he only had 2 other perchases and they had negative feed back so i presume he wont be an e-bay troll for long.

Just a total time waster :thumbdn:

At least you know he is the one missing out ;):D those model 10s are nice:thumbup:

just another bozo backing out of an impulse buy. I sell things on Craigslist where people actually need to show up to pay, and even then 50% of "can't wait I'll be right over" buyers are flakes. Embarrassed by their flakiness, they make up convoluted excuses - as if I care, just don't waste my time! But it's more that they feel like if they convince me that they're not flakes, then they won't feel like they are - even though they totally are.

If you are interested, you can file an unpaid auction claim against him and then Ebay will refund your fees.

Agreed, I also had a similar incident selling a paintball gun in which the father emailed me saying that his son had bid under his name and was not allowed to own a paintball gun. Though in this case the very apologetic email and the fact that the actually winner wanted me to send it to a random address in the same city under a different name makes me think he was actually telling the truth. Luckily another bidder agreed to take it for only 5 bucks less! I personally wouldn't take money orders anymore. Paypal is used almost universally now by all ebayers and I would also mark the box that says if they are going to buy it now you want immediate payment. If they are really a good buyer then they already have the money sitting there and there is no reason for them to need time to pay you. Just my opinion.

thanks RDT, i just blocked him as a possible buyer of any of my for sale items on the bay.,,,VWB.

The way I see it is ebay allows you to password your account or its mandatory I forget. If their to stupid to log off or give their password away then its their own fault. Some people give ebay a bad name and ruin it for everyone else.

Most people who sell on Ebay have experienced this problem with time wasting wankers. I don't know why they do it but it happens regardless of the nature of the goods for sale.

It has happened to me a couple of times and I have never had a problem getting Ebay to re-credit the fees. The real impact is in the wasted time and the loss of sales to other bidders who missed out. Often by the time you have concluded that the defaulting bidder won't pay the other bidders are out of the market.

Not much you can do about it apart from report the dispute and leave appropriate feedback. It is possible to set preferences to reject bids from certain categories of bidders eg those with x number of negative feedbacks.

Thanks guys! Indeed this guys a moron. It just pains me to deal with such a time wasting impulse buying fool.

It sounded like a load of BS to me. I did tell him that since he questioned my Fatherhood that if it were my son, I would pay the insertion fees as until he's 18 I am responsible for what he does. As well, that he was responsible for leaving his ebay account open for anyone to use on his computer.

He didn't like that very much.

As far as the Upaid item dispute claim, I can't file one until Nov 4th as that is the prescribed amount of wait time.

I left Negative feedback already so, the probability of getting either is slim I guess. Oh well, it was worth it to leave the Neg feedback. I'd pay more if i could have left a more details Neg feedback...LOL

Guess what?! Now I have another ebayer who has yet to respond to her invoices. Its' been one week as of today and the total for the sweater is a measley $11. shipped! Sent her a couple emails asking her to at least contact me if she's having difficulty paying and just keep me informed. As of yet...nada.

I think there might be another negative feedback coming. Sheesh!

wow, common stpry then since I too have had a winnign bidder appologize for his son bidding on his name, lol, I guess these people like the excitement of the bidding but just don't like paying for the items, hahahaha, seriously though sorry to hear of your rediculous winning bidder and the crap you had to go through...darn ebay, darn it to heck, lol....Sicne this is the family friendly section of bladeforums I had to say that in the cheesiest manner possible, but you get what I mean!

Is this guy from San Diego CA? Maybe it's the same idiot?

It bugs me because I had no problem letting him out of the deal as long as he was willing to be somewhat compliant. Kids do stupid thing sometimes I realize that. So the possibility is there but after his email exchanges with me I can only surmize he's a damn fool who over spent and is making excuses now. Or his wife busted him buying another toy for himself after he missed their anniverarry....LOL

Hmmm, I really don't remember where the guy was from, but I know the screen name or account name was different, something much longer in terms of letters, but I can't remember what exactly....But I could imagine that its an easy excuse...if you change your mind or just like to bid opn stuff you can't afford...Like kind of like, hey if I can't have it neither can anyone else...Just my assumption...There is always a chance it was not an excuse but a real story, but even if that were true he should not have given you an attitude when you asked questions...the defensive responses leads me to believe it was not a true story...
