This one with a French, or Euro flavor. 9" blade of 01, 1 1/4" wide, 1/8" thick. Iron bolsters riveted on with three 1/8" pins of welding rod, and camel bone slabs. All lightly aged. Thanks for looking, hope you like it.

Nicely done LRB

IMHO you nailed "the look"

How did you age the camel bone scales ?

However you did it ........ it worked great ! ;)

Again, nice job !

I meant to say something about your first trade knife you posted but missed out. However both of these are very, very nice knives. Simple and cleanly made. These are how ballanced knives (in terms of design and components) should look.

So often I see knives whereas the maker has worked hard on (damascus for instance) the blade steel, or paid well for the handle material so much so he/she is afraid to gind anything off! The result is a clunky looking knife with bad proportions.

You didn't make that mistake...

I am not sure but if you are referring to his recent post he made of a trade knife. If you are, this is the same knife he just wasn't done with it.

This maker is not at his first RODEO! Wick Ellerbe is one of the finest knife makers that I know!

His impeccable work is one of the reasons that I got interested in knife making again after not making a single knife since my boyhood days. Each of his pieces are an inspiration and you will probably not find another maker that knows more about the actual time period for which the majority of his pieces cover!

Wick and I have talked at length discussed on many occasions about his knives, his methods. I discovered Wick on another forum and even though he did not know me, went to great lengths to discuss the in and outs of knife making. We have even discussed some of my own feeble attempts at knife making, and why or why not the piece I had in mind would not be appropriate for the time period I was trying to achieve. I have told him several times before that he is my adopted mentor: D and one day I hope to get a chance to meet him in person.

While he is much too modest a person to blow his own horn, I will say you can take a look at his website and some of his work here. http://www.wickellerbe.com/

I hope you don't mind me posting that link Wick. You see he is one of those rare people that don’t need to blow his own horn, "his work does it for him"!

My apologizes anvilring! Wick has recently made two that were similar and I got them confused in my mind. Now it makes sense why I didn't remember the bolsters on that knife. This is an updated pic of that particular knife you were talking about, after aging I think. I know he had posted he was going to age the knife.

I am not for sure that this is the same knife but I think so, as I have not talked to Wick lately. However the knife you have pictured is on his website under the for sale area although in that pic I can not see the aging that appears in this photo I took off of another forum.

Dixie I think you've found yet another one. I checked out his website and he makes some really interesting knives...
He shows several options for this model with different hafting; and beautiful sheaths as well.

Guys, thankyou deeply for your compliments. The two photos above are the same knife. The customer wanted it aged. my camera would not pick up the grip without giving it white out, but it is about the same as the one I posted with bolsters in color. Again, thankyou for your compliments. Dixie, are getting your equipment squared away? And staying healthy?

Wick, those recent knives are beautiful pieces. Great work is the normal for you though!
The wife is the one with the health issues right now, she has been sick since back in Nov. of last year, and they just can’t seem to get it figured out. We are going to a local university for diagnostic in May.
I am ashamed to say but have not finished the first knife for this year. I can't seem to concentrate when I get out there in the shop. I am still working on the shop though and if we ever get my misses squared away I should be good to go in the shop though. Just trying now to keep priorities straight and dedicate as much time to her as possible right now!
