Looky here at the cool setup my wife ordered me for my birthday.:D

Ive been wanting this bivy for a long time, but it is kinda pricey.:o

My wonderfull wife, who is now my sugar momma, told me she wanted to get me a new setup for this year for my birthday. So, this is what I got.

I was happy enough with this, but she insisted on getting me a siltarp to go with it, after hearing me whine about the crappy blue ones I have for the last year. Actually I was just informed that the tarp is a gift from my sons.

went with 5x8 for this setup. A little small, but with the bivy, I think it is plenty ample, and no seam to seal.

I chos this over the hammock Ive been drooling over, so that I can camp waterside at the lake, where trees arent very abundent on the shore. I look forward to putting many miles on this setup this year.

Eventually, I am gonna add the 10x12 siltarp, so I can have a bigger area under the tarp for others to sleep under it.

Anywho, just thought id share, and see if any of you have that bivy, or use a 5x8 and get your thoughts on it all.

NICE!! Hopefully I can get off my arse this year and try tarp camping. That looks like a killer setup!

I love bivys, and this one has a whole multitude of differant venting options etc, and is suppoed to be one of the easiest to get in and out of.

Also my first Siltarp, Im pretty exited to get out in this setup.:D

Yeah, Ive been pretty lucky lately gear wise. My wife started working after finishing nursing school, and its the first time in 5 years weve had 2 incomes in the house. With no car payments, no credit cards, and our house almost paid for, its wonderfull having another income, even though she makes more then me now. Which, hell, im new age, its cool if she makes more, hehehe.:D

Haha, my wife just started nursing too, so I've got a sugar momma for a change. Which is why I get to spend some of my money on toys these days instead of living expenses. Woohoo!

I'm not wishing you happy B-day anymore - you got too much stuff :)

You gonna go to sleep on the ground in that thing with the JK tester still lurking????? I suggest building a swamp bed anywhere you do go and putting the bivvi on top of that !

It is nice. Its been tight for a few years while she was in school and not working. I had to sell to finance new gear, now I can actually keep what I have. Thats kewl your women nurses too.

Nice set-up man! you'll be a bear burrito!

I will just have to remember to dump some tabasco on me before I go to sleep. Hahahaha!!!:D:thumbup:

Thanks man. She told me when she started working that she wants this to be my year since I have been so patient with her schooling, and footing the bill for everything else. She is letting me do some much needed traveling, and wants me to have nice gear to take along. She is a great person, I am a lucky man. Trust me though, its been a long road to get us where we are now. Alot of hard work on both our parts, and alot of patience from our boys.

Great scores Jake! You are a lucky guy with a wife like , but you already know that.....

Jake, reads like your sweet wife is a lot like mine. Very understanding.

Good scores for sure.

Jake - Happy Birthday!

That's a really nice set up - nice of your wife and children - great family.

I'm very happy for you!

Now, I'll PM you my address to send your old gear to when your new stuff gets here. :p;):D

Dude trust me you wouldnt want any of it. My sleep stuff is pretty thrashed, and my wally world blue tarps with custom duct tape patching have seen better days.:o

Thanks for the comments guys, ive had a rough month, alot of BS to wade through. Its lookin up though!

Any bivy campers here??

Anyone use a similar size tarp? Im curious to what you think of its size.

I have a Wally World grey one I'm going to try out sometime.

My boy turns 4 this month - by spring/summer we are going to start back yard camping and go from there! It should be fun! My wife is interested in as well.

I imagine we will go from back yard --> to car camping --> to hiking as the years progress.

I watch all of these threads closely.

I'm glad things are heading up Jake.

I have a 4 yr old too troy, arent they fun?

You guys will love it. Its definatly a blast to get out with the family. I own a couple bigger tents for car camping, and a hammock from bensbackwoods that my son already has dibs on. We will be getting out alot this year since my wife is done with school. We got out about every weekend before she started school, and I look forward to startin back up again. I do love my solos too though!
