This is not to take away from another thread that is gooing on here but I am having a real problem with chosing my blade mark stencil. I have a very common name JASON SMITH and as far as I have been able to find there are many variation of these initials ( JS ) and and many other SMITH's out there in the knife makers world. My question is this, I came up with a logo design a couple of years ago and can't decide weather to use it of try to find a unique way of using my name.... Please let me know your opinions and any one who might be able to give me their ideas would be great!!!
This is the logo I came up with....

looks great, the size and detail are such that it should turn out nice, mabe too large if you are doing folders but for fixed should be good. You may want to make some real size copies and place on some blades to get and idea of how to position it and how it will work on your blades.

You could try taking that logo down to about 3/8" to see if the lines hold up. You may have to make a few adjustments, but It could work. YOu could also just use the type without the image or the other way around for a mark.

I think it's an awesome logo, but I'm afraid it may need simplification if scaled down too far. But please do a test and show us the results. I'd really like to see how much detail you can maintain.

Cheers Rody

Jason-

I can understand your dilemma, and I think the logo you came up with is great.

However, I think you could be hurting yourself with something like that... simply because people can hold one in their hand and see it's a SILVERAY knife, but not necessarily that it's a Jason Smith knife.

Just something to think about.

The logo dilema that keeps surfacing on bladeforum, is should you promote your name or a company such as SilverRay. I did a little of both since my last name is Randall, i created PatrickKnives and mark my knives PC Randall. I think the custom knife industry to date has been built on name recognition Moran, Loveless, Bose... but I am seeing alot of custom factory brands being developed where a custom maker or a couple take their best knifes and combined skills to promote a brand.

You may want to give some thought to combining both, I can see a website that is SILVERAY, and a logo with the ray and J.Smith.

My experience with etching, I think the logo will come out fine on a knife. The lines are dark enough to be sharp without bluring.

I agree fully, I actually have someone working up a couple of ideas to incorperate my name and the sting ray but from reading further around here I definately feel my name should be a part of the logo... Thank you all for your imput and I would still like to hear your ideas!!!
