Another boring TGLB thread. (Update...minty fresh no more)

Thanks for posting, this TGLB threads are not useless, keep them coming.

The grind on the last picture, in comparison with older TG, looks really like I hoped for but I personally wouldn't like to receive the knife with so noticeable "machining lines". It should be grinded properly into the clean flat surface. Even if it coated. Once the coating comes out I don't want to be chopping with a "staircase" grind.

Beautiful knives. New to Busse and thinking of getting the TGLB. How long did it take once you ordered it? Were you disappointed in the sharpness? I wonder if you could request a "razor" sharp grind?

How do you compare the two handles? I was looking at the exact two options. Do you find that the black canvas provides more grip?

Hello and welcome drsmith751. Obviously your questions were addressed to the author of this thread but I would add my opinion if I may.

Since the knife is currently in production, you will not be waiting for a long time, I would say just about one month. You can ask the company to put "razor" sharp edge on this knife but even though it has much better grind than the previous TG model, you should also take into consideration its thickness and for what tasks and materials you will use this knife for. For a better explanation please watch this short video:

Yeah, I'm definitely going to send it back in to get those removed. Since I've decided to strip it, I want them gone. I think they will be even more noticeable without the coating.

It took about 9 weeks for mine. I'm not sure what timeframe is being quoted now.

I'm fairly new to the whole sharpening thing so I'm not one to criticize an edge. Yes, I wish it was sharper but I also think the angle is just more obtuse than I'm used to. I'm not used to knives with this thick of a blade.

As far as the handles go, I won't order anymore G10. I like the looks of it, but it just doesn't have the feel of canvas that I think is absolutely perfect. YMMV, but for my hand, canvas is the way to go.

Did you become accustomed to canvas with your original TG, or have all your knives had canvas? Hand smoothed G10 feels great on my NMSFNO and I liked machined on my Sarge 7 as well, but I'm curious what canvas or linen micarta feels like as I've never used them. I think handle material preferences are shaped by what we're accustomed to using. You can always swap out the slabs if you send it in to have grind work done.

If you are planning on stripping your TG and are sending it in for repair you can ask to have a comp finish put on while they are working on it.
This way you should have no problems with the carbon layer and it will look much better.

I need the G10 for my Daryl costume and I paid more for it so I might as well roll with it.

I've only had a Ratmandu and these two Gemini. My RMD is canvas and if it didn't have a choil, it would be the perfect knife. Different handles are going to feel different but comparing the two Gemini, the canvas feels so much better. It is hard to explain. The G10 has some edges towards the butt of the knife that could become hotspots when chopping. The canvas is totally smooth. The canvas has more texture which I think gives me a better grip. The handle on the original TG feels incredibly natural, almost like it could be an extension of my hand.

I think a TGLB with a canvas handle would be packed full of win.

I may have to inquire about the price of that.

Agreed the G10 can be a little crisp on some edges. As with most G10 I took a piece of sand paper and softened a few spots on the handle. The counter sink holes for the tube fasteners and the spot toward the butt are now soft and smooth with no visible difference.

Huge difference, just go a little at a time until you like it.
Congrats on the CF you must post pics when you get it back.

Make sure you take pics! That was my original order until I changed the handle.

I certainly will. This has been a really helpful thread for me. Great pic's your knives sold me on getting one. The both look really cool. I figured for my 1st Busse I'd stick real basic (and a little cheaper) and see how I like it. Your G-10 looks really awesome. I think I will probably try a G-10 if I get another Busse in the future. I really like the contrasting colors.

Knife is off to get pants....then will be taking a trip to get a CF...then back to me. I shall miss it.

To keep my blade clean I spray it with WD-40 before I usE it this help a lot. I have a small
Can I keep in my pack. I if it starts to get sap on it I wipe and spay it again. I keep
It in a leather sheath and it's work good sofare.
