Another "Breeden's Razor's" coming soon - my "Truth" knife!

That is one sweet looking knife you got there. Excellent design, Frank. That and Bryan's workmanship, you have one outstanding knife. Looking forward to your review.

Thanks brother! I'm really pleased with Bryan's skills - what an *amazing* craftsman. I spent some time yesterday doing some batonning and baton-driven, pommel strike tip-splitting as well as a single, token chop session through some red oak. The knife pretty much sailed through everything with aplomb and is still crazy sharp!!!

I took pics of the play-around yesterday, but for an actual "review" i'll spend more time with the typical criteria (feather-stick/carving/whittling). I wish i could source a pallet or two in my locale b/c they're great for evaluating lotsa different knife uses - i'll have to do a better look-around.

Hi all,

Frank, glad you hear you like your knife. Thanks for the kind words too.
I look forward to reading about and looking at the pics you do for your review:D.

Ha!!! Bryan, i'm not going to do a review from some cool place in Europe (though i was thinking of maybe the forest around the High Tatras mountains in Slovakia or in Slovenia around Lake Bohinj - beautiful places). Probably some forest in Northern or West Michigan or maybe just the back porch of the house right here... I'll try to get creative on this (possibly some sunset on Lake Michigan carving or chopping...).

Thanks again - i'm really, really, really enjoying the knife.

How are you liking this knife now you have had a chance to play with it a while, anything you'd change with the design ?

Yea Frank, spill the beans, how are ya liking your knife.

Lumberjacker, Thanks, You can contact me via e-mail about one.

Ohh man - i *absolutely love* it!!!!!!! Unfortunately, i've not gotten out to use it more than a couple times (re-adjusting to life back in the States and "vocational" adjustment/change is and has been difficult.........).

OK, to start with i am completely confident the knife absolutely, without any hesitation, will *never* break in *any* application i'd use a knife for (which is a pretty broad statement). This is very reassuring i can tell you.

The fit and finish is great - when i tap on the Micarta handle it sounds like steel - it's utterly solid. I like the non-shiny surface of the blade and all the little details that are taken care of that make the knife clearly crafted with great skill and care. The edge has held up fantastically to some not-so-nice use - cross-batonning through seasoned white oak is not nice for any knife, but mine was more than up to the "challenge"!!!

At first i was sorta surprised by the "blunt-ness" of the design of the knife - meaning my design didn't incorporate a very 'pointy' tip (i knew this, but actually holding it and seeing this took a little adjustment). However, it's worked out perfectly as intended because i've driven the knife, via the excellent and improved-over-my-design pommel you implemented, into and through some very hard, seasoned white oak with no problem (aside from destroying the baton!!!). Also, despite not having a pointy tip, the knife "drills" really well.

The blade dimensions, shape and ergos fit me perfectly for the knife's intended purpose as my "field knife". By this i mean; game processing (untested at this time), wood processing/fire-making tasks, larger bush-craft tasks (making shelter materials), food-prep, etc.

I know my only hitch is that the knife isn't a great "slicer", but given it's 1/4" thickness and (awesome) convex grind, slicing was an area of use i had to compromise. In retrospect, 3/16" (or possibly 5/32") may have been a better thickness for sliciness, but i'm overwhelming pleased with it as is.

I really am thankful for it - what a huge blessing!!! It has gone with me on every outing i've been on since acquiring it. I'm hoping to get out this Fall and do some camping here in the mountains.

That looks like an awesome knife, welcome back stateside! I agree with you on the tip, I've gone back and forth on that, but less pointy = less damage. And I'm sure it still cuts/twirls/does everything just fine.

LOL I really like how you spilled the beans:) it makes me want to get one:thumbup::D.

Bryan

Ha ha!!! I'm pretty sure know where to get one!

Thx sodak! Yes, it's pointy enough - though for sliver removal i reach for my Leatherman Wave! It really is an awesome knife in a stout, but very manageable package. As i mentioned, 3/16" or 5/32" may have been better, but the 1/4" is very reassuring!

Frank, Ha ha , Yea so many knife designs to make. Here is one I just finished sunday for me.
I put cocobolo scales on this one and made a tan kydex sheath. 5" long blade 4.75" long handle and 5/32" thick.

I have several more different designs on my work bench that I want to make for me one with a 8" long blade and it is 1/4" thick.:D.

I just got this in the mail today ( not to keep lol) a Maynard SERE knife.

I will be making up a blank this week. Yep another one I want to make with a few changes lol.

Someday I will get caught up on the knives I want to make for me, but for now there are still orders for others too:thumbup:

I like that 5" blade Bryan !

Regarding the sere knife I always find it wrong to have serrations nearest the handle where you want to be doing your fine carving. JMO, serrations are better up front the same as on Victorinox SAKS, that way you can still carve stuff but also use the serrations for rope etc when needed.

Agreed pitdog, I am not a fan of serations so close to the sweet spot for carving lol. I am not sure what I am going to do with them yet when I make mine. years ago Gerber had a knife that had them on the top of the blade but near the tip of the knife I might do something like that lol.
I am not sure about putting a blood grove in either.

Another option would be to have them on the top as on this knife. I'd leave the front of the spine flat though if possible for battoning, the swedges tend to eat up the battons.

Yea that is another option too. Or just not have them on the knife at all. I am just not sure if I would even want serrations lol.

Yeah very rare that I've wished I had them. I was just thinking that you wanted them after posting the sere knife, LOL !

I have an idea to help you Bryan: You can simply send me that nifty 5" bladed knife there and then that gives you more bench real estate for more innovations! Why, i'll even toss in postage to help you out ;-) lol

You make some exceptional blades that's for sure.

Thanks Franks for being willing to help a guy like that lol. Give me a few years to think about that ok lol lol
