Well i got around to start another carved handle on a piece of damascus.
This one is dedicated to Ray Richard. When i made the last ones a couple of years ago Ray said now carve a bird in a tree so i thought what the heck why not. This brings a whole new meaning to stock removal.:D Here's the knife so far. Thanks for looking i will show some more pics as i progress.

Thanks folks i still have to texture the bark and do some graver work on the bird and leaves then it will be clayed up and heat treated. If it survives then to polish and etch.
More pics to come.

Bob

So far i have used lots of drills to reduce the stock then dremel and files along with a jewelers saw and lots of blades.

Very nice Bob. You have better nerves than me cause I'd be stressed out doing such fine carving.

Can't wait to see it finish.

Thanks again guys. Patrice if you can do what you do all day this is relaxing;).
Bruce i'm not realy sure what type of bird it is but blue bird sounds good to me so it's a blue bird.:D

Thanks guys i want to get this one finished but it is so cold :eek:here and my shop is not heated unless i fire up the forge. Then i would not be working on this because theres no sence in running the forge if i'm not forging:p
Warmer days ahead i hope.

Cheers Bob

do you have pics of other knives that you have done this way? this one is turning out beautiful! i was curious though, do you leave it like it is when done or do you fill it with as clear epoxy for a handle?

These are the only other carved handles i have done. Yes the handle will be left as it is but rounded and smoothed up .
Thanks Bob

The one with the anvil is the most appropriate knife I have seen as a gift to a knife maker, I saved the picture when you first put it up.
