As some of you might remember, I am having some health issues.
Osteoporosis, multiple compressed vertebrae and other degenerative pathologies of the spine, and with them chronic pain.
Yesterday, I went to a new specialist to be seen for a hand tremor I have had since I was a kid.
After having bad experiences with meds available in the 70's to treat it, I kind of gave up on fixing the tremor, and just marched on.
When I learned the VA had opened a motion disorder clinic at the Hosp I go to, I wrangled a consult, just to see what new treatments are available.
The tremor has gotten allot worse in recent months, after being somewhat benign for several years.
So they ask me a ton of questions, do some tests, have me do some things like move my arms and feet.
The Doc then looks at me and says that I have an essential tremor, to which I respond " I know", and then tells me, you also have
Parkinson's Disease. I was floored, but also a bit relieved. The diagnosis explains allot of small issues that no one has put together in a pile until now.
At this point I am no longer working, and my Social Security Disability claim was denied the first try. I have retained a lawyer, and am going through the appeal process.
I haven't been on the forum much, because I just don't have funds for knives anymore, and just drooling over em is kinda a bad tease.
There are some awfully kind and caring folks on this forum, and your continued prayers to the Higher Power of your understanding would be greatly appreciated. I will continue to forge ahead , and live as productive and comfortable a life as I can, given what I have been dealt.

DaddyDett,
Good luck with the road ahead. My father was just diagnosed with PD about a year ago (he's 59 y/o). It's almost a relief to hear the diagnosis, because now that you've identified the disease, you can begin to treat it!
Keep your chin up; it's important to stay active (both physically and mentally), and surrounding yourself with good & supportive people really helps.
I, for one, will put some smoke in the air for you.
Alex

Smoke and prayers. They've made significant advances against PD in recent years. Please, let us know if there is anything we can do at all. We take care of our own.

Wow, that must be difficult to deal with...I'm sorry.... Try and keep your head up, however difficult that may be for you compared to an unafflicted dude like me, man, I hope they find some good treatments for you, as I understand, a cure is not likely, but treatment is more than possible. I don't know what else to say.... Perhaps this: Look for balance, I believe that is key to all good living. If you have balance, you have enough good to be content, enough bad to be dissatisfied, and enough neutrality to hunger for the latter two. Like (I think) Steve Jobs and the Whole Earth catalogs said 'Stay hungry, Stay foolish'. I think that about sums up what I'm trying to say. It's not always about what terrible blows have been dealt to you, it can also be about what you do to achieve balance again. I believe you already knew and accepted exactly what I was, and am still, trying to say: achieve and maintain balance, and you will be capable of many things that unbalanced people, that are seemingly healthier and 'better' than you, would never be capable of. Peace. Forgive me if I have crossed lines or passed boundaries in my attempt to help Mark, I try my best to skirt them at the maximum.

This attitude of yours is inspirational to me, since I'm only faced with relatively minor health issues that can shake me up nonetheless.

Smoke and prayers.

Smoke up Bro. I know what it's like trying to deal with the disability Nazi's. Sorry you have to go with the lawyer stuff. When I retired from 25 yrs Army, they treated me like I was a felon being released from 25 yrs of prison lookin for a handout that was coming directly from their pocket.

At least they diagnosed the Parkinson's for you and, hopefully with its treatment they may be able to help control your tremors and the other "small issues" that you've had:thumbup:. You may ask your doctor about using MSM for use regarding your spinal condition and chronic pain. Here are a couple of articles to give you an idea of what it is and how it is used:

Thoughts and energy out for your return to health Mark, and to you and your loved ones to help everyone through it all.

All the more reason to keep your chin up, we all have purposes on this planet. Just don't give up and Life will find a way to balance it out for you.

At this point I am no longer working, and my Social Security Disability claim was denied the first try. I have retained a lawyer, and am going through the appeal process.

I don’t understand why you would be denied - after I had not worked in a year or so they took my papers sent me to some doctors and then i was judged disabled -- in all i took about a year or so from the last day i worked --and 2 years for medicare

i have a lot of physical problems too but it seems to me you have a few more than me do i don’t see why you would have been denied -- have you looked of your paper work maybe something got jumbled up -- well anyway I was reading your opening post and I find myself disgusted with the government agencies – it’s a downright sad thing -- I hope things get better for you real soon

i will keep you and your family in my prayers

Eric

According to the lawyers about 85% of first claims are denied. I certainly thought when I applied I qualified, based on what I read on the SS web sight.
AT this point, we are managing, barely, but managing. The new diagnosis of Parkinsons, with my balance and gait issues that have developed over the time since I applied may further my case.
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

My dad's case got denied the first time even tho he had documents of terminal liver cancer among other ailments. When his lawyer helped him, he finally got it the second time. Just keep trying.
