One more from my cheap steel knives. 4mm 1.4116 Krupp steel. Wallnut handle with leather spacers and lanyard hole with stainless tube and pins and buffalo horn bolsters.

Forgive me, but I don't understand. I'm not familiar with the steel - but if it is a cheap steel, is that the same as a "crappy" steel? You obviously put a lot of work and craftsmanship into your blades. I don't understand why you start with a "cheap" steel?

This isn't criticism. Just curious.

Thanks

Rob!

Because it is realy a low price steel. It is like 420 with 1%molybden. It is not from a wear resistant family steels like 440B, 440C or higher grades that most makers use. Maybe I should name it "cheap steel knife" :) when I started with knives I bought a large piece of that steel 1.4116 and I have to use it. After that I will pass on higher grades. I will try RWL34 next week for the first time, can't wait what it will be. Thank again for the comments. :)
