5th knife out the door...

I would like to be able to etch my blades and stonewash in the near future.
I'm using the Radio Shack PCB at the moment.
I'm getting an uneven grey thru out the blade.
Very frustrating.
I'm thinking it has something to do with heat treat. I'm using a two brick forge.
So my soak times on 01 steel is about 4 min at most.

Also the blue lighting stencils I got don't seem to like the heat when I go to mark.
The etching is fine on them.
But I've roasted two stencils now during the mark process.
I'm only leaving the etcher on for about 3 seconds at a time.
Is there any stencils out there that can take the heat ??

Is your pcb mixed with water? I usually dip for a few, then wash off and use steel wool to wipe the blade. I will do these steps over and over until it gets as dark as i like .
What etcher are you using on your stencil?

I don't know why it happens or who told me, but try it mixed with water. I think it reacts more. I've never used it full strength and i can get the blade almost black. Try a 50/50 mix.
Wish I could help with the etchomatic, I don't use that.

I really like your folders too.

Is your etcher causing the blade to heat? Perhaps it has problems, mine has never gotten hot and wouldn't leave much of a mark after 3 seconds. Who made it?
Nice blade, by the way.
