Hello folks,

It's time for another craigs list anvil! This one is at least a "real" anvil, but it blew my 500ish budget out of the water but it looks like a good anvil. Peter Wright 150lb a whopping $750.... thoughts?

It kills me, there was a $575 200lb anvil that I missed.

Peter Wright Anvil Marked with words: Patent Solid Wrought 1 1 18 (Stone Weight) = 158 #'s Mounted on wood and steel Cash only

The size is good and the face looks reasonably flat. It also however appears to have damage on the face in the tail section / hardie area, and a bunch of chisel marks on the face. I have bought 7 anvils in the last couple years myself, between a 71lb Attwood, and a 396lb bridge I haven't identified yet. That anvil at that price would not interest me. Depending how the face looks in person and how low the guy is willing to go, it might be an option, but if he was firm on price I would probably keep walking. Just my opinion, but that's more than I have paid for any of my anvils, and I have some big ones. The last Peter Wright I sold was 140lbs at $500 and it was a lot cleaner than that one.

Ok, thank you for the input. It means a lot to me. I don't need the stand either, though it's nice. The search continues...

Agree with the above. If you're going to bump your budget up to $750, I'd hold out for something a little heavier, nicer, or both.

Tail is different than anything I have seen but that appears to be a much better anvil than the first one.

Turning cams are more a farrier thing, But it lacks other classic Farrier specific features. But detracts nothing from that anvil.
I think "JB" is John Brooks. Appears to be cast steel & I dont think its very old, Its in very good shape. Considering what used anvils sell for, I think its decent price.

I would agree that it is a Brooks most likely. Looks like most of the other Brooks anvils I have seen. At that price I would probably pick that up.
