no doubt amazing attention to detail, but I just gotta say that the guard is a just little too much. Too sharp edged, its geometry ruins the lines of the blade and handle. Actually, it's disappointing, because I really like what's on either side of it but that guard disrupts the flow, in my opinion.
Guard too busy? Not for me. Yes, it's busy, but that was the intention. Curt has done plenty of shaped and sculpted guards for me to know he can pull it off in spades. In this case he took the classic oval guard and elevated it to the limit.
Julie is at her peak when she does scroll and those trademark raised gold dots. This is JW-E at her very best.
I love how those flutes float away just before the ends. The throat of the sheath has the diamond profile of the blade in the upper plate entry (not seen). There is a LOT of good stuff going on in this piece.
Del - I'll post one more from the collection for the moment. Here is one of his signature art daggers, and is the image on his website that one clicks to get to his gallery. The handle is dendrite agate, a really amazing piece of rock. Julie's magnificent engraving, with gold, platinum and French gray. About 16" long, overall.
