Another cutting test...

Black coatings always come off the blades no matter by what company. Some just take longer then others to come off.

If you give me details of what kind of knife you are looking to buy, I will tell you some options. Just give me a price range, blade length, and if it's a one-hander or slipjoint.

I'd like to spend under $100, 3.5 - 4 inches more/less, and I don't know what you mean by one-hander or slipjoint. I want a folder if that answers the question. This knife will be for defense and everyday use.

2 votes for Spyderco Calypso Jr and its a good price, I am looking into it, thanks.

It's only 3 inches and not exactly a self defense knife, but yeah, the Calypso Jr. is a damn good work knife.

If you want self defense and a little longer then three inches, check out the Paramilitary. It's made by Spyderco, same company that makes the Calypso Jr. It runs around $99.

A cheaper option would be the Spyderco Endura. It runs around $45-$50. It has a 4" blade and works very well for both self-defense and everyday use. I EDC it's little brother the Delica. :)

For future reference, when someone says tactical, or one-hander, they mean a knife that locks and is capable of opening one-handed. When someone says slipjoint, they are talking about the folding knives with backsprings, like a Stockman pattern, or Swiss Army Knife.
