Doing whole NJ stretch of AT in 2 weeks.. Cant wait.. This post inspires me, except the ripped no brand name sneakers part.:confused:

Great pics and adventure. I too have been accused of the Marine Death March mode!
Didn't see your HPG rig -What's up with that?

Enjoyed the pics. I love the AT. Recently did the first 220 miles from the south end(up to 441/New found Gap/middle of Smokys) in 1 week solo hikes. Some of the best memories are on those hikes. Like stepping into the Looking glass. From then on, everything is reduced to the 3 essentials..Food water shelter and management there of. What an adventure. Its unique when hiking with the Thru hiker glut. You meet all kinds, for all over the country and world. Seems a large portion weren't even a backpacker prior to starting the hike. Then by around 50 miles in....reality sets in and they see the monumental task ahead of them. ..and how far just 10 miles is when hiking up and over big mtns endlessly. Many start quitting around then. Not to mention by then the other stuff is happening.. toasted (true tender footed) feet/heels, sore/blown knees, sore shoulders, etc.

Thanks for the pics.

I enjoy walking through Harriman this time of year. I can't be there now, but really enjoyed seeing it through your photos…thanks!!

Lol my mother in law did the same thing. She protested when after the first mile we said we were about to hit the trail heads. :-)

Nice hike and pics! Doing AT nj tomorriw

thanks! how was the hike?

Nothing a little duct tape can't fix ;)

haha! i just cut it off.

You can't go wrong with a hike on the AT. You'd have to try hard to find a stretch that doesn't have a nice view or an overlook or some cool little spot tucked away along the trail.

indeed, it's foolproof since i knew i couldn't take them to several areas i like.

Another Great post Bro

Thanks

Dr.Bill

thanks, dr. bill!

Nice pic's, but what's a "footpaint"

thanks! "footpaints" is what cody lundin covers his feet to prevent blisters :p

thanks! the hpg rig was inside my osprey kestrel 28 which i made my uncle carry on this trip...the kestrel is my edc/truck pack and the hpg is in there when i'm not hiking...my pack contained full size items like a 10'x10' tarp, fak, pot aside from my canteen cup, etc...practically my overnight loadout.

What a beautiful area for a walk! :)

thanks! our timing was perfect too for the fall colors.

thanks and you're welcome!

gotta be interesting to meet those thru-hikers that just started on their journey...since we're at the middle/tail end of their trip the only thru-hikers i've ever come across were already well on their way and in perfect shape for it...the most i ever got was a "hello" when i get passed and next thing i know they're way off in the distance :) i don't think i'd want anyone of them to stop long enough though for me to get a whiff of their body odor, haha.

you're welcome! almost all my hiking trip reports are from there and i'm glad it brought back some good memories for you :)
