Very nice. Growing up I didn't know NJ was so pretty. I'm glad to see I was wrong!
thanks! up north there's plenty of thick woods to roam around in. i've never been down south so i don't know how the pine barrens are but i've heard good things about that area too.
Awesome pics! Really enjoyed lookin at the dragonfly pics. My logo is a dragonfly. I was in Thailand and one landed on me while I was on a boat and stayed there for about 5 min! I like that second pic of that small waterfall. The water looks hazed, it's great! There was also a ton of cicadas in Thailand too. It was hard to sleep at night sometimes cuz it was so loud! Thanks for posting this! Gave me some great memories.
thanks! glad my pics reminded you of some great memories

you are taking better and better pics every time you post. I have a couple of questions; Are you in Harriman? Do you use a tripod for some of your pics?
thanks, marcelo! yes, this was in harriman right at the nj border/ramapo mountains.
no tripod, it's free hand although i'd sometimes lean against a tree for extra stability. i do use trekking poles to hike (my balance is a complete opposite of a mountain goat, haha) and i used one as a monopod to take that one pic with the glazed waterfall.
Really excellent pics as usual. These are looking National Geographic quality  I really like the little newts.
thanks! those newts are awesome but i never seem to find anything larger than those.
very nice wite up and your photography skilz are very good sir..
thanks! the camera did all the work though.
Here ya go, man.
Blue trail on the way back to Anthony Wayne Rec. Area parking lot. This was taken about 2pm on Saturday.
thanks, rich. you are a snake charmer! i need to check out that area sometime.
Thanks for the pics JV and beanbag! Another awesome hike and day of photos!!!
I did an 8 mile hike on Sat. with the missus in the Pine Barrens here's what we captured digitally!
We always practice a passive approach to photography with a no disturb policy. We saw a red winged blackbird preparing its ground nest and backed away. It would have been a great shot otherwise. Good job everyone on your hikes this weekend! All we need is someone to film a Jersey Devil and we're set!
thanks for those awesome pics! the coloration on that frog (or is it a toad?) is awesome. i had no idea we have a lot more species of snakes...the eastern king snake especially i've only seen in a plastic container in one of the reptile shows out in pa...i hope to see one in the woods one day.
Great pics !
thanks!
JV, that was bad etiquette of me for posting so many pics on your thread - my bad! I was a little overzealous seeing another hiker on the forum who loves to practice photography!
no big deal at all...this goes for any of my threads - feel free to post related pics as often as you want!
Nice anaconda! What's that little pot you are using?
haha...it's a 900 ml titanium pot made by evernew. more pics and relative size here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/951622-review-evernew-titanium-900ml-pot. the heat-resistant coating on the handle works really well - i've had flames touch it for several seconds many times and there's no hint of melting at all.
Awesome photos Jay! What camera and lens did you use on these? Glad to see I'm able to pass on some things! Yeah, many creatures in nature suffer from boredom due to lack of reading the kamasutra man. AS far as I know, those tiny dragonflies are known as maidenflies. The Cicadas haven't reared their heads here yet, rather odd.
thanks! still the d90 body with the 18-270 mm tamron lens.
could it be due to the milder weather that the cicadas there haven't shown up yet? it's been really mild here...we had a heat wave of 90+ temps only for a few days last week but it's back to the low 70's again.
