I ordered a Fingerling upswept hunter for my deer hunting kit. Can't wait to get it. I think its going to be a excellent whitetail knife. I was thinking only a few months ago how I wish BRKT would make a knife like this. Its similar to a Old timer sharpfinger I believe. I will give a report after gutting a deer or two.

Congrats bro. Good luck, I hope you get a deer soon.

I would love to see some action shots.

I saw those a few days ago at DLT. They look outstanding! And...you're right, they're just like the old Schrade (502 is it?). I have one of the Schrades, but the new Barkies really look nice and they're reasonably priced. Good score!

Please make sure to post some in-hand pics and do a little write-up Troutfisher!

congrats... as i stated many times before, it won't be you last...:D

good luck this season...

I got one deer already, a doe. After a buck now. I will do a little write up of the knife after I field dress a deer with it!

Great Score Troutfisher, …that sure is a classic American pattern.

Do doubt the Bark River version will be a real performer.

What handle material did you choose?

Question for you Barkie guys, how grippable is the BRKT micarta? I want something thats going to be easy to hold if its wet and bloody.

I agree with Cereedy when it comes to unfinished micarta, ala RAT Cutlery or Ontario, et al, BUT!: Bark River's micarta is finished with a hard poly or something, so the micarta stays dry and the fibers don;t get a chance to dampen and "swell". Even with that hard finish, though, I think you'll be allright... especially when it comes to blood which, after a several seconds, becomes semi-sticky and more sticky as the seconds roll on. Let us know how it does in that regard too!

Just got a barkie in the mail from a trade, it's a skinner as well so i figured i'd post it.
It's the wolf river, looks functional but I may try and mod the shape into a nessmuk, my first one. Got it with green canvas micarta.

I've got a few barkies, the micarta comes, for lack of a better word, polished. Definitely not the rough stuff you might be accustomed to. I wash them in dish soap and use a green scrub pad which removes most of the slip from the handles.

I have 2 Fingerlings on order/hold at the moment. I used the Bark River Ptarmigan which is similar in cutting edge to the Fingerling, to skin and gut my first doe this year and it was the finest cutting tool I have ever used on a deer. the Fingerling will be no different. Great choice and score! :D

Micro review:

The knife came in today. It feels great in my hand. I tried many different grips that I would use while field dressing and skinning a deer, and they all where comfortable. The blade was scary sharp! The only thing I don't like is the lack of a lanyard hole. The handle pins are hollow, so I might be able to use the back one if I can find some small enough cord. I will do a better review after I kill another deer.
