anyone have the plans for a simple forge burner? Either forced air or venturi will do. Any opinions on what would be better? Thanks for the help.

Wayne Goddards book $50 knife shop has a very simpe design. Basically 12 inches of 2 inch pipe. Blower attatched to one end and a 2"elbow on the other. Drill a hole about 2 inches above blower large enough to fit your orafice drilled with a #54 drill. I just pinched and soldered the end of 1/4 inch copper tube and drilled a hole in it. The into the other end of the elbow connect at least 10 inches of 2" black pipe. Now you have a burner. Very simple and very effective.

if you havent already picked up that book you need to get it. its a very good book. i recently read it all the way. very informative.

I just made 2 burners like the backyard metal casting shows but with a ¼” pipe welded on top of the pipe and a .030 welding tip instead of the #57 hole (I will try and get pictures of this). Due to technical issues one of the burners has an extra set of holes drilled in the main pipe but it does not seem to affect the performance at all. i was surprised how simple it was

i think i can adapt an electric starter from a gas grill to IG's design and just have a small nipple for that with the starter and the a cupling for the black pipe nipple.

thanks for the tips. I hope to have my forge up and running soon. I have Wayne Goddards book by the way, nearly have it memorized. It has been an invaluable tool!

I saw a simple forge burner diagram at www.emeraldisleforge.com
That is the basic desighn that I used for mine ...with a couple of modifications of my own since I do have some thermal dinamics (combustion) knowledge

I went with IG's burner design. It works like a charm. Oh in a thread awile back IG asked what blower I used, so to answer him in case he sees this (don't laugh IG) I use a shop vac. It does work, but I will be getting a blower soon from a great guy, for free.
