Another funny sheeple & knife story....

I think Tightwad makes a good point - most people these days are unfamiliar with knives in our sterile modern lives. Like many say time was when owing a knife for a guy was a rite of passage like your first hunt or first car. These were times when people were (I believe) a lot more independent and self suficient than todays pre-packed, disposable culture of instant gratification. A knife is a tool that CAN be used as weapon as can any tool and yes I think the media IS to blame for that to a certain extent. When people see us in our offices with our knives their associations are with Rambo and all that macho crap. I believe they SEE it as a weapon because thats what they have seen on TV/movies. I don't suppose we will see any movies about guys whittling pieces of wood or saving the day by opening the package nobody else can! Be kinda dull but people would see US in a d ifferent light.
General and Buzzbait - love those stories, there is hope for us!

boigon, what makes you think I had an auto?;)

The law in the UK is you can carry what you want as long as it is not an auto, gravity or butterfly knife. You just have to have a 'reasonable' reason for carry. Thus in the woods a 10" blade is cool but not down the pub... Common sense really.

Otherwise you can carry any folder of 3" or less as long as it does not lock closed. Note an Opinel N7 is just under 3" and few know it has a 'lock'

In most cases a 3" folder like a small seb gets few eyebrows raised.

I was opening boxes so my LCC was fine, quite a convincing 'reasonable' reason I would argue!:D

Since the 9/11 tragedy, people in general are wacked over knives
I also work in a Field / Office enviroment.And I don't even pull
what ever my EDC is on that day .I just don't need in there eyes
the bad publicity anymore ( I work for Boeing) They look at you like your ready to do harm to someone. It's nuts

Okay. I'll spew out a story.

I was walking down the street one day, when a Sheriff's Office patrol car pulled up along side of me. One of the computers at the jail had apparently crashed, and they couldn't find me at the office (I'm a network engineer for the county). The officer told me about the problem and asked me to come back and help. Well.... I normally ditch my knives before hitting the jail, but couldn't help it in this emergency.

So I get into the jail and the metal detector just about overloads. I had my large Sebenza, Vic Cybertool, 154CM Camillus EDC, and a Buck Cadet. It was like a scene out of "Mad Max - Beyond Thunderdome". To make matters worse, they had some secretary screening the people coming in. She looked with her mouth wide open as I unloaded all of the hardware.

The deputy, who knows me, just grinned as all of this happened. So then the secretary looks up at me and says, “What are you? Some kind of prison assassin or something?" Without skipping a beat, I pointed at the rubber band she was playing with and said, "Be careful. You could put somebody's eye out with that thing."

I can still remember the roar of laughter coming from 5 corrections officers and a deputy. The secretary was not amused. :p

That story is friggin awesome.
I'm laughing my @ss off.

I have a twist in all this

I worked at an office and always had my knife at that time a dozier agent. used it to make my lunch pretty regularly. my department supervisor says we need to make some rules about what to bring in the office. so first I brought someone else's lunch parring knife and pointed out the department cake cutting knife for birhtday parties.
she still was not giving in, then it turned out the ceo was also a knife nut had tons of knifes and carried a spydie military. so she had to give in and from then on I carried what ever when ever :D :D

has anyone ever got why do you need a knife here, it safe are you paranoid? what they fail to realize is yeah it might be safe here but how about on my way home.

Yeah, but I bet that if you worked at the USPS you'd never be asked that.
