Here is my regular bush tracking gear. This is what I take when I go on a over night hike. My favorite spot is a local State Park where I usually hike around 9 miles to a primitive camp spot, set up my camp, and sleep over. The next morning I hike back the 9 mile to the Pathfinder. I also bring a bag of jerky and my camara, but they stay in my cargo pockets.

Here is the list:

GI Poncho in black bag
Snugpak Jungle Sleeping bag
2 -32 oz Nalgene Water Bottles
Snow Peak Titanium Mug & Spork
Bushcraft Knife W/ FireSteel
Aerobic Oxygen water purification
Fallkniven DC3 Sharpening Stone
Gransfor Bruks Mini Hatchet
PrincetonTec Aurora Head lamp
Brunton Gentleman’s Compass
Red Bandanna
Travel Toilet Tissue (just in case)

Here is the gear spread out:

Here is my gear packed up in my Maxpedition Devildog Waistpack:

Here are a few of my Hiking buddies:

cool kit i like the small knife and the axe sure covers it all...... but the camping buddies are awsome.
If i may ask, how do you set up the camp?? with your friends around do you worry about some of them come for a visit at night??
As someone that lives on the other side. I hope my Qs are not out of place.
I see that you carry the axe with you so im sure you use it. Is it only for fire making or are you use the Axe for shalter too??

Man you get all that in a waist pack? Sweet! Do you use anything for shelter or just sleep under the stars? Do you bring you CCW in case of any chance encounters with you hiking buddies?

Hey Myakka, what size Snow Peak mug is that to nest over the Nalgene bottle?

Thanks,

For shelter I use my Poncho/Tarp folded in half and make a mini lean-to. One half of the poncho I lay my Junglebag on and the other half is my roof pitched just a few inches above my head. The Jungle bag has a bulided in bug net which keeps the small critters off me, and I dont worry about gators they stay away from people.

Great post Myakka. It's always tough to narrow it down to the bare essentials. Looks like you nailed it down well.
