kinzli was kind enough to invite me, so I figure it's only fair to share the love. :)

EDIT: Alright, all invites sent. Everyone who emailed me should have gotten one.

Send yourself an invite to another email address that you use, you will get ten more invites and be able to set up another ring sequences for other numbers, just thought you might want to know. If you haven't already done so, ME slow learner.

I'm missing something here, what keeps me from picking a number that's already in use by someone else?

Or the flip side, I discontinue my land line phone, but keep the phone number in GC. Then phone company recycles my number to someone else?

Once you get an invited, you get to choose from their list of numbers for your incoming calls that are then rerouted, up to 6 other phones of yours, land lines, home, office, cells, etc. All the numbers that you list with them will ring all at the same time, unless you say, send the ones I have marked "others" to voicemail, you can also choose to NOT ring your home number during business hours. You don't have to give everyone your grand central number, just those folks that you want to be able to reach you without having to try to track you down. It has so many features, I haven't scratched the surface yet. It even has a call button you can put in a web page without showing your numbers, since you don't know who is calling with that button, it goes to voicemail, that you can leave a detailed description of something that you may be selling on ebay or even the forums here. Don't give up any of your regular numbers, this is for incoming routing, although, you can click on a contact number while on grand centrals site and it will call you first and then them, saves dialing. I don't know if those calls will be free in the future but they are now during beta testing.

Hope this helps,
James Todd

So basically, what you're saying is I have my choices limited to what's available when I sign up for GC.

I guess I was thinking of it the other way around, I want to carry my current number forward into the future, you're talking about picking a number for use in the future that's rerouted to somewhere else.

This is a rerouting service, you select one of many choices that they present to you, I happen to get one in my area code that had my house number as the first three and the last four happened to be one of my back line numbers at work, so it was easy for me to choose that one. Each area is different, but I probably had at least 30 numbers to choose from for my incoming call, of course I did route them to my existing home, cell, and office numbers, it rings all of them at once. You pick up where ever you are, if you answer on your cell as you are walking into home or office, you can hit the star key and the other numbers start ringing again, pick up the home or shop number and hang up the cell the folks that called you, experience no delays or even know you have transferred the call to one of your other numbers. I dislike talking on my cell, because of the size, but it never fails I get a call on it about the time I am getting home or at the office, now I just transfer it and pick up a handset that is easier to hold.

Thanks for the invite James, it actually is a pretty cool service. I recently moved to another state and was about to change carriers to get a local # plus better reception at my house. With this I can keep my current cell # and carrier, give out a local # and have it ring on my home phone so I don't have to worry about a signal.

Pretty slick.

They really are ahead of the game at Google. I use many of their free products, and I can truly say I love them all.

Anyone have an invite?

I'll give out some to other members if anyone does.

Thanks!

Email me or send me a PM
