I've been sort of lucky lately; my days off have had some pretty decent weather and I am able to share them with friends.

My daughter, Marcelo, his wife, and son went for a lil hike today around a lil pond. The lillies were blossoming making a very pretty view.

I was able to catch a couple more snakes. The kids enjoyed this guy as he put on a show trying to bite me. (Northern Water Snake)
I finally got the best of him.

Lil guy is about ready to shed.

In about the same spot I caught that one, I found another snake. This species is alot more friendly. (Garter snake)

Ofcourse we had a couple of dogs with us. They had a good time as well.

Afterwards we went back to Marcelo's place for some knife work.

More pics coming.

First off Marcelo wanted to test out his big old Double bit axe that Big Mike recently put a screaming edge on.
Despite how retarded the user looks It worked great!

I had a few knives with me that needed some testing, so out they came.

My SDS custom may not be the prettiest knife I own, but it sure cuts great and is comfortable as hell.

Yes we had an axe and even a splitting wedge, but I like to baton....

I also got this amazing knife from NWA. This is more than just pretty!

On my hip was my new BRKT Gunny. It works awesome as well.

Its been awhile since I had this knife with me. I sure missed it.

Koyote makes some tuff blades. This one is only 1/8th thick and splits everything.

I will get reviews up on the NWA and SDS knives with in a week. There's still some more I would like to do to them.

Thanks for looking.

Notice the stump with the scorch marks. Supposedly poplar but we had a heck of a time getting through it with a chainsaw. The cedar comparatively was like butter.

Another activity that met with enthusiasm was rolling tonka trucks down the hill.

Looks like ya had a blast Tony !

Gonna put you on the spot now, if ya had to pick one outta the 3 midsized blades which would it be and why ?????

Good way to spend the afternoon:D How heavy is that axe? It looks pretty good sized. I went out a couple of days ago and ran into a little gopher snake, surprisingly, only the second snake I've ever seen around here!

Looks like a good time guys.... WOW tony I like your big snake... Somemone had to do it.

Yeah I'm not convinced that was Poplar either...

At some points I did want to join the kids in crashing those trucks:o

 Oh damn!

Thats like a PM type of question ain't it;)

Allthough they all have their place in what I want them for; If I had to choose 1 it would be The NWA. The D2 steel is tuff and holds an edge great. The fit and finish (allthough not all that important in a user knife) is absolitely flawless. It cuts great as do the others, but probably the biggest reason I would pick it is... Its ability to throw wicked amounts of sparks from my mishmetal fire rods. I'm not the type to carry seperate strikers; I like to use my knives as they are always by my side.

Can't give actual weight, but its a beast. It was splitting the cedar by just dropping the head on it:thumbup:

Yeah, like thats the first time you saw my big snake:rolleyes:

:eek::D

Nice comparison of blades, Tony. I really like the look of the NWA. Looks like something that could really be handy.

Also looks like you had a lot of fun splitting that wood with the Koyote, huh?

You know it:thumbup:

This is one tuff blade.

See the bend in here

I had that knife bent a few degrees more than that in this big ole chunk of knotty Oak.

The bade always comes true! Something about that differential heat treat Koyote does.

Looks like a great day Tony:thumbup: I wish I had more time to play like that:o I will be making my way to Cedar Point in the morning though. So I'll get a chance to play with the kids for the weekend. That place brings out the kid in me too:D

Nick:)

Looks like you guys had a good day.

The wood in question looks familiar, as I believe both the Poplar and the Cedar came from my property.

The Poplar is a LIRIODENRON TULIPIFERA (i.e., Tulip Tree or Yellow Poplar).

Native to the Eastern U.S., the wood was traditionally used for furniture and boats.

And is obviously harder then you guys expected.

Looks like you had a grand time, Tony. That's a pretty little checkered garter snake. Water snakes are ill-tempered bastids; that one was made more so by his skin getting ready to come off.

Knives, axes and Tonka trucks?! Sounds like a guys dream day! Great pics man, looks like fun. Marcelo's axe looks scary big!

awesome pics Tony.. definitely looks like a good day man...:) i really like the looks of that NWA knife.... it looks super comfortable...:D

bravo bravo!!!!!!great pics! that lil guy may need his eye scale helped off. Did you see what they were hunting in that area?
