Back in Texas I was an actor at several renaissance festivals. I became good friends with a very large and very wonderful guy by the name of Jeff Thompson.
He usually played a Scottish character named "Mayhem."

(In fact, I made a lochaber axe for Jeff one year as a birthday present. I cut his initial "M" out of the middle of the blade. He said he loved it and carried it with him for years.)

Jeff made me look tiny.
(He was 6'7" and well over 350 pounds)

He was a sweet, nice, loving guy who was never unkind to anyone for any reason. I can't imagine him having been even impolite.

Jeff was working as the bodyguard for the band "Damageplan" recently, and he was shot and killed Wednesday night by a lunatic who got onstage during a performance at a nightclub. This guy killed the guitarist and several other people in the club. The gunman was put down by a police officer with a shotgun a few minutes later.
I wish I could have been there to do something, anything.

Like Butch said, there will always be things beyond your control.

Be ready, my friends. Develop that sense of danger and listen to it. You just never know.

The season of death continues.

its a small small world... for those who dont know yet, the guitarist was dimebag darell of pantera

my condolences to all involved

I empathize with Danny. You never know. Tell the people you love that you love them, now! Tomorrow may be too late.

My wife and I have an agreement. We never go to sleep on an argumant. If we are arguing, we do not go to sleep until we settle it. Sometimes it is daylight when we get to sleep.

Love Y'all

Ohio is still in shock of it...sorry for your personal loss Danny :(

That's a shame. I have always worried about something like that happening when I have been at concerts. Ms. Hollowdweller was attacked in 88 I believe at Legend Valley in Ohio. Some guy out of his head came up behind her and slapped her so hard it almost knocked her down.

He was only 40 and as nice a guy as you ever met.
He deserved better. If I know him, though, he went after the shooter with his bare hands as soon as he knew what was happening.
Poor Jeff.
Damnit to hell, I have all these weapons and all this training and I cant even save one friend from one crazy f$cker in a nightclub.

Jeff Thompson had friends all over the country and I bet his funeral will be huge.

JEff didnt have much of a family and he spent Thanksgivign with me in 1997. We lived together for two months that year when we were helping Scarborough Faire get into the Halloween Theme park season.

We had some good times.
We basically lived in the middle of a haunted theme park all by ourselves.
After everyone had gone home, we'd have a late dinner, usually BBQ'd steaks and rum and cokes.
We'd listen to 70's rock and roll and talk about stuff till 3 am.

I hate that bastard who shot him so much I want to dismember his body and burn the pieces.

I can't remember the last time my wife and I had an argument.

Probably because the chair she hit me over the head with gave me amnesia.

I swear to God, I don't know why, but after reading this I'm sitting here crying. Good friends are not supposed to go this way. My heart hurts and I can't tell you why.

I'm sorry Danny. Your friend sounds like a regular guy. I know he fell fighting back... I'm sorry.

The a$$hole murderer ate a shotgun blast. I hope it hurt a lot. Sick f*ck.

Champaka smoke up for a fighting spirit.

Danny, just remember that your life is richer for having known him. Celebrate his memory rather than mourn his death.

Evidently the psycho was obsessed with the band 'Pantera' (I never did like their music too much) and wanted to get even with the musician he felt responsible for breaking the band up.

Danny, be glad that that ba$tard ate buckshot instead of getting parole for "good behavior." Hope it was a gut shot.

My strength goes out to you, friend. You're not alone.

:( Danny I knew who "Mayhem" was. I worked the Ren Faire circuit for 20 years--under the name Scully Scalawag...I was in the music group Dregs of Dublin, among other types of performing...he used to visit the Kansas City Ren Fair, he was one of the few people I actually had to look up to- (and I'm 6'4'')...I only knew him in passing, as a fellow performer, and the "games" we played after the gates closed, he always seemed to win the caber toss in the Scottish games, and he always had a huge smile (a guy that big could only have a huge smile!)---I only have good memories of him. He will be missed by many people that knew him and of him. I am sorry for the loss of your friend and want to extend condolences from all the fellow "performers". Remember the good times and he will live on bud!

Thanks all.
Hi Scalawag. I never made it to the KC faire, I was usually too broke by that time of year.
Yeah, Mayhem used to help out the Rogues and stuff.
I can only imagine how those guys must be feeling right now.
Mayhem taught me how to do the caber toss.
I do have a lot of good memories with Jeff.
I'd rather have the chance for more.

Sorry for your loss Danny. This is a bad time of year for me as many loved ones have walked West during the month of December.:(
