Another H1 Question

Hey guys, I have heard alot about this awesome Rust-proof steel. And it sounds like I would really like it. So i plan on getting a few salts this summer. My question is, with all the talk of it being work hardened in the grinding process, I am confused....There is no heating/tempering process at all? Then stays hardened every time it is used? I just don't understand. Could somebody please elaborate.

It is still not clear in my mind how the different hardness level on the edge is achieved: is it just by friction when grinding/sharpening, or is it because of the heat generated by that process?
