Lisa just finished the haft last night..Forged from a american made ball peen hammer..3 7/8" cutting edge..

Kentucky, how do you stain the handles to make the curl in the wood show up so well ?

*Sand handle too 220 grit
*Buff handle with #0000 steel wool
*Buff handle with heavy cloth/denim
*Stain with aqua fortis
*Buff again with #0000 steel wool
*Buff again with heavy cloth/denim
*Rub with boiled linseed oil
*Finish with wax..
The ammount of curl can vary depending on grade of maple.
All these handles were done with this same method..

Nice, what weight hammer did you start out with- how much does the finished head weigh?

Chances of seeing a ball peen hammer similar (or the same) to the one you started with. . .like a before and after shot.
