Could someone tell me the proper way to heattreat SKS5,or 74NiCr2? Both are carbon saw steel. If not where could i find that information? Thanks for any help.

Keith Willis

74NiCr2 - .74 C, .17 Si, .40 Mn, .25 Cr, .55 Ni
SKS5 - .75-.85 C, .35 Si, .50 Mn, .25 Cu, .25-.50 Cr, .70-1.3 Ni
I couldn't find specific HT for them but I would assume that 1500-1550 F for hardening. Tempering for a start 400 F.

Thanks mete, with the proper heattreat and temper, are these both ok as far as holding an edge?

Thanks again,Keith

So far,i have 13 58'' circular saw blades,so as soon as i am able to get back into the shop, i should have enough steel to practice with for a few years to come.Again mete, thanks for the information.
