Another 'Help me decide' thread, this time: 940/943 or 960???

I’ve had both the 960 and the 940 and would probably choose the 940.

The 960 is very slim and a great knife in the pocket however the 940 is much nicer in the hand.

Now I'm just seeing a pic of the 960 but I don't care for it. Strange color combo. It looks flatter, less ergonomic in handle design, shorter blade - so I agree based on the actual specs. and the picture. 940

I guess it depends which color red you like ;) ;)

They are both very nice, light weight, easy to handle knives. The 960 is better looking, smaller, and thinner but the grip is less secure. The 940 is the ultimate in efficiency - good blade length in a small, very light package. For light weight EDC knives, they both perform great.

In the end I'd say it comes down to personal preference.

TD... seeing them side by side like that is very informative indeed! Makes the size difference very clear to see. Thank you.

My wife has a 943 BK1, so I know what the 940/943 feels like in the hand and it fits my medium-large hands perfectly. I can see how some would feel the handle on the 960 might be a little less comfortable - especially for large hands. For simple daily tasks that I am likely to use an EDC knife for (opening boxes, envelopes, plastic wrapping, tape, string, opening an orange, etc.) I would probably be fine with either knife. I do like the smaller form factor of the 960. But I know the 940/943 handle fits my hand well.

Yesterday I concluded that I would go with a 940 PE. Today I'm slightly leaning toward the 960. (Wife having the 943 makes me almost want to go with the 960 to have something much different.) DANG. More time and thinking may help me decide for sure. Or not. Perhaps I will have to wind up getting them both, one now and the other later. Since the 960 is no longer in production, perhaps I should start with that one. Silver or red. Red or silver.

TD22057 What a couple of sweethearts! I wish you'd had couple different colors in there too. It would be like knife porn to a 940 lover! :D

Decision made. Silver & black 960. Decent deal on eBay for $130 including shipping. Really looking forward to this knife. I wanted to go small, light weight, deep-in-the-pocket carry with this EDC knife which will see only light use. So, in the end, it was the slim, super light weight, and deep carry clip of the 960 that won me over. And the fact that these are now discontinued.

No doubt I'll be adding a 940 at some point down the road as well... but no rush on that one.

Thanks to all for the comments and suggestions.

I find that the sharper point of the 943 is better for food preparation such as filetting fruit, boning chicken, removing silverskin from tenderloins, etc. I have retired all my reverse tanto blades. Benchmade will put the blade of your choice on your knife for about $60.00. Check with them for price and availability if you want to try both shapes. Send them the handle only, then you will have a spare blade. The 943 in Aluminum weighs 82gm, in Carbon fiber 72gm, and in Titanium 92gm in spite of the fact that the Ti model has an open back.

Congrats on your new 960 ZDHart! :D

Thanks, cziv! I'll post some pics when I get it!

tiguy... my wife has the 943, so I've got some experience with it. Nice knife. But not quite what I want for myself. My folders won't see much, if any, food... except perhaps to open an orange to begin peeling, etc.

Congratulations on your new acquisition. I have both and I couldn't tell you which one I like better. They're both very nice.

I filet my oranges and serve them on the quarter shell. I can't stand all that citrus oil under my fingernails. It is hard to remove the core from a quartered apple or pear with the 940, but the 943 does the job competently.

Looks like the 943 is just the knife for you! ;) Enjoy that beauty.

Just in today... and this knife fits my intended desire of small, very slim, very light, easily pocketed, axis lock, and quality steel! Being super slim and at just 2.3 oz. it carries like it isn't even in the pocket. Nice! Just what I wanted.

Not a knife I would choose for heavy use (I never seem to have any "heavy" use for a knife in my life anyway!), but perfect for lightweight EDC needs. The fit and finish is superb. Blade is perfectly centered. Action is very smooth and light. Edge arrived fairly sharp and now toned up to a razor edge on my IdoHone ceramics. I'm very pleased with this gorgeous knife!

Thanks for the input from you all.
