Have any of you looked at this one yet? I am trying to digest it but just not that knowledgeable on the 300's

Says it is a 310, has a 2006 309 stamped main blade and an Idaho blade.

Says it is a factory error.... What ya think?

Oh yeah,,, the tang stamp on the knife at the top of the listing, doesn't look like the tang stamp of the close up....least to me and this flat panel.....

I find it hard to believe it's a factory mistake, since I don't believe Buck ever made the Whittler pattern in house, they were Camillus contracts.

EDIT:I'm gonna hold back certainty on that until better minds step in, I checked my refernce books and I am not 100% sure if the 310 was inhouse or not at this time.

And you are right, the one picture appears to be tangstamped "309" and teh other "309-|" with the sideways T.

I dunno, but it kind smells to me.

I wonder if it was rebladed......Then I wonder about the "RARE DISCONTINUED" statement with it having both a 2005 and a 2006 stamped blade..... Discontinuing one that is only a year old?

Couple of these have been on Ebay in last weeks, I would classify them as "unusal". Most likely the end of a run and bladed with 309 blades after 310 blades came up short. Has happened before with various models. If it was really cheap I would get one as an 'oddity' but I consider them not a true, got-by-the-inspector factory mistake. My two cents anyway. I have a couple of 301's with 319 blades....

300,,,, Why/how do you figure the diff in the Idaho on the coping blade and 2006 stamp on the regular drop blade? What would be the real year of mfg?

Could this possibly be a 310 Whittler that had 2 blades broken , and was factory repaired using new blades made for a 309 Lancer?

That jumps into my mind as the simplest explanation.

Did Buck ever make a 310 ??

Yes, they did make or market a 310 Whittler pattern, depending on whether it was made inhouse or contracted through Camillus.

The only ones I know for sure that were brought inhouse in the mid 80's were the 301, 305, 307, 309....some of the others were still made by Camillus at times, but I can't swear about the 310 yet, still checking my books. (it's a sickness, little things like this are as much fun as collecting itself to me!) :D

That guy says the box has 310 on it and he did list a couple of 310's in previous auctions... I believe he used the top most pic of a 310 as the same pic in all of these auctions.

This is weird,

The wooden box says "100 years/Buck" on it, which makes it what 2003?
One blade is stamped 2005
Another 2006

But was the 310 Whittler even in Buck's lineup in ANY of those years?

Well call me crazy if you like, but i bought this one you guys are talking about just out of curiousity. If nothing else it will be the oddity in my collection.;)

100 year was 2002..

Congrats rgoff.... I guess...... It does sound like a curiousity. I considered it, but the guy didn't answer my questions right.... hedged on when he bought them , the box, and dates... If he contacted Buck, he would have known the dates.

Give us a report when it gets there... We all may have screwed up.... lol....

Oddity?? ....maybe?

Looked thru my old catalogs. The last 3 blade 310 was in 2000. List $29.00

2002 was the 100th anniversary year. This knife has the 2006 date stamp (Idaho). That special edition box in the picture looks like it was made for a larger knife. I would like to see the model markings on the box. This knife caught my interest because I collect the 303 Cadet and it looked so much like one.

The seller has listed another one just in case anyone is interested.

Comes to mind SMKW had a special run on these last which included a wooden box. I should get the catalog CD from the BCCI to look up last time it was offered by Buck, nothing in 04,05 or 06 catalogs. Several other knives have had the boxes. 525 artist series comes to mind.
I think someone got a couple Johnny Cash Cadillacs either from factory end run (most likely)or someones 5 o'clock pocket. In my mind, as a hard core 300 collector, their value is not high, not rare just an oddity. I looked at them on Ebay but didn't bite. If I could have gotten one for several dollars less, I would have stuck one my "oddball' shelf.
Buck uses their inspector rejects to send to third world coutries where a small knife of good steel is a valued possession.
They use missionary requests for them and watch that they don't get on open market.

Did you check the special project section of the catalogs, I don't have a complete set.

I think this guy is obviously avoiding the issue of when this knife was produced.

I sent him a question and he said he thought they were 3 or so years old. It has an obvious 2006 tang stamp and an obvious 2005 Idaho stamp.

I still think he would know all of that if he has contacted Buck about it, as he says.

I dislike descriptions to have obvious flaws, as this one does. If he did manage to grab end run put togethers, he should simply say so. The "oddity" effect might bring him even higher bids if it rings true. On top of all of that, unless I missed it.... he doesn't say where he is.

I guess I thought about grabbing one is the reason I am way too interested...

I just wonder how many more he has.....
.

300BUCKS is essentially right. The 310 was made by Buck and was introduced at the same time as the 312 and 314 Trappers. The very first ones were LE with the same cache as the other two Trappers. It is still being offered by Bass Pro as a new knife in the wooden box. I am sure that that is what we have here. It is a brand new knife and the one I got from Bass Pro also has a 309 blade. The two main blades are identical and I think this is exactly like seeing a 560 with a 110 blade, no big thing at all. It is a nice little knife but not so rare as he says. I am sure Bass Pro would be happy to sell you as many as you might want.
