Does anyone know if the top swedges are still sharpened on any of the Ka-bar fixed blades? I personally sharpened it on one of mine, but id like to buy one allready sharp as it doesnt look nice after I do it

Most of the ones I've seen are, like a penetrator tip, but not as sharpened as the main section. Curious, when did they stop doing this?

Im not sure. I was at a surplus store over the weekend and I handled one. I know what you mean about the penetrator tip (thats what I sharpened on my ka-bar), and these werent even that sharp. They were only thinned out a tiny bit. I asked the owner about it, and he said all the newer ones he got in were like that. I got home and checked for anything about it on the internet and I found a short article that said they werent sharpening them all the way anymore.

hmm dont know about yours but mine although unsharpened can still cut me if i push on it.

I bought short version a couple moths ago and the swedge wast fully sharpened, but was still enough to cut when pushed on. I sharpened it and now its pretty much the same as the main edge. The one I handled recently wouldnt cut me unless I applied a ridiculous amount of pressure.

Azrael31: I've got a short KBar like new with the top swedge sharpened. It's partially serrated in a leather sheath. Let me know if you would like to work up a trade for other fixed blades. Bill. wewaslim@knology.net

isnt it not sharpened so they can sell it in states where double edged knives arent legal?

Im sure its has something to do with that or something like that. Maybe they figure a single edge is less intimidating to the casual knife buyer. I personally dont like a fully double-edged knife, but I find that sharpened top swedge pretty useful at times.

Im looking for a longer one. I allready have a short ka-bar that I sharpened on top, and although it doesnt look as nice, it still functions very well.

Yeah and other countries too :]
I find I like it better unsharpened - less dangerous to myself, and it will still cut.

One of the less intelligent things to do, I put my kabar in my thigh by mistake when I overcut something - damn that hurt like hell and it was only a little dot. I treat my kabar with respect now =)

Hahaha, I had to learn the hard way too....I dropped one and It nailed me in the top of the foot. 13 stitches, and I was lucky to miss the tendons.
