Just got mine. #273. This knife is a great example of RJ Martin's design and Kershaw's quality craftsmanship. It basically screams to be used. Fit and finish is on par with a lot of the customs I own. I really dig the clip design. It's probably just the fact that my hands are basically huge callouses, but the clip doesn't really bother my hand when holding the knife. It flips nicely, not quite as nice and smooth as one of RJ's customs, but nice nonetheless. Here's a little porn with a couple of Q-36's from RJ Martin. Enjoy.

Dangit, I really wanted one of those! It looks great, I hope you enjoy it!

That's a damn good-looking knife. I think the stubby clip looks a little funny, though. There's no recurve on the Kershaw but there is on the customs?

Does anyone need a kidney? Because I would trade mine for one about now!!! :D:D

I have contacted many places trying to get one and so far it's not looking good. :(

Yes. The customs have a recurve to them and the Volt does not. I like both variations. I put the Volt to a strop loaded with green compound. It didn't really need it, but now the edge is smooth as glass.

Very nice. Love the comparison shots, too. The pocket clip on the red JD Q36 is a nice touch.

So has anyone who got a Volt been able to use it some? Do they work as nice as they look? How does the steel seem to hold an edge? I figured there would be more talk about them but I guess they are still making there way into people's hands and there aren't many of them. I wonder if they will end up going for an arm and a leg on the secondary market? I'm still trying to get one with no luck. I can probably get by without a leg, just wondering if it is worth an arm too? Any guesses as to how expensive they will get or will they not be as popular as anticipated?

I just got confirmation from 2 different suppliers that Volts are shipping to me.

2 Volts on the way:D

I've carried it pretty much exclusively since I received it. It's a great knife. I haven't had a whole bunch of chances to use it, but it has seen some light use. I cut up some cardboard with it to see how the edge holds up. The edge did hold up fine and I didn't have to resharpen it or put it to a strop. Still shaving. I'm not a big fan of the blade finish. It scuffs very easily and seems like that extremely fine bead blast would just beg for rust and corrosion. I'm not sure how resistant that Bohler M390 is to rusting, but I know CPM-D2 is not very resistant. If I could get another one easily enough and for the price I got this one I would probably send it out to have a hand rubbed finish applied. Overall, I'm very impressed with the fit, finish, and quality of this knife. Especially at the price.

Haven't had the chance to use one of the Volts yet. It takes me a few days to decide on such things. :)
I really like the size of it. It does weigh a lot less than it "looks" though.

I am really happy that RJ is working with Kershaw on these projects.

You and me both brother! RJ's work is top notch. Now Kershaw needs to get in touch with RJ about doing one of his fixed blade designs.... I vote for the Moxie! The Moxie is a fixed blade version of RJ's Q-36. Beautiful knife.

Just wondering.......how does it ride in pocket? Does the smaller clip hold it in place securely?

It rides in the pocket extremely well. I can hardly tell it's there. The small pocket clip seems a bit weird for the first couple of days, but it grows on you. The retension on the clip isn't as strong as some other knives, but I don't feel that the knife will fall out of your pocket by accident. I never carry anything else in the pocket I keep my knife in, but if you do and went to pull that other thing out there is a chance that the knife will unclip from the pocket and become loose. For all intents and purposes it does the job it was made to do.

Been waiting a while for this one, cant decide between a blem or a new one. any suggestions ?

The only suggestion I have at this point is get your order in fast whatever you're going to do because I beleive these will sell out VERY fast!

Hi Tony -

Thanks for the pics an thoughts.

I had wanted to get one of those, but I did not realize that they were going to be that limited.

I notice that there are a couple of cues taken from the Acies on the Volt, including the lock stop and the pivot.

Does the Volt have bronze bushings?

Also, does the clip have any mechanism to prevent it from twisting? (I ask because I notice it has only one screw).

I like that Kershaw is starting to use deep-carry clips.

Thanks again for the pictures.

best regards -

Acies - Volt comparison.
Both use the Hinderer lockbar stabilizer if that's what you mean.
Pivot? Do you mean the black pivot screw being the same?
The clip is inset into the handle to hold it in place. I like that better than having 2 or 3 screws riding on the surface.
The Volt was introduced at Blade last year, not sure when the Acies was introduced before being produced.
