Another Kershaw Volt thread.

Small similarities wouldn't be out of the question. The Volt and Acies were both made by Kershaw. It's just that the Acies was produced for AG Russell. They appear to use the same style standoffs and the same lockbar stabilizer. The lockbar stabilizer is a Rick Hinderer design though. KAI has permission to use it.

The Volt has been one of the more exciting releases from Kershaw this year.
Just looking at it says, "I am different." From the composite blade with exotic steels, high-chromium Böhler M390 MICROCLEAN® with CPM-D2, down to the mirrored design on the CNC-machined 6AL4V titanium and G-10 handles.
I even like the short pocket clip.
I would expect nothing less from a company like Kershaw.
I think I am gong to go look at mine again.

I was a little up in the air about getting the Volt even though I had placed a preorder back in October. I really like my folders on the beefy side, even if they have small blades, i.e. Boker Titan Defender. So when I learned the weight was 4.8 ounces for the Volt, I was thinking about passing. I had even offered my place in line to another forum member.

But then I started seeing the pics! Great pics Tony!!:D:thumbup: So after finding out that the other member had scored one I decided to keep my place in line. After reading that the knife was fairly beefy, with a .157" thick blade, and titanium handles of the same thickness, I was sold. Believe I also asked about the weight and was told that the volt was a little heavier than the 4.8 ounces stated, maybe just over 5 ounces.

At any rate I emailed Roger to let him know that I would be taking the Volt. Then I read here that 2brothers has blems for sale, and that the blemish involves the copper brazing in appearance only. I email him last night to get one and get a response today saying he still has a few left and that I can get one. Thanks Jason!!

Now I have two coming and am tickled pink!:D:D:thumbup:

Any chance of getting pics showing the lockup on the Volts??

HI Tony8179 -

Well - I missed out on the original sales, but I was able to pick up a couple of blems (one for a friend) off of the exchange.

This will be a nice companion to the Acies - and I am sure it will be of the same very high quality.

Acies - Volt comparison.
Both use the Hinderer lockbar stabilizer if that's what you mean.
Pivot? Do you mean the black pivot screw being the same?
The clip is inset into the handle to hold it in place. I like that better than having 2 or 3 screws riding on the surface.
The Volt was introduced at Blade last year, not sure when the Acies was introduced before being produced.

Hi 2brothers -

Thank you for the comparison shots! Nice!

I did not mean the comment to be deleterious, I was just pointing out that, as an owner of an Acies, I see many of the same cues in the designs. For instance, the pivot with the large hex on one side and the black torx on the other, and the lock stop, even the contours on the end etc.

This is all good, in my opinion, as I love my Acies, and I also love that it is a Kershaw.

In fact, I just ordered two blems from 2 Brothers (not sure if you are affiliated with them but it appears so..).

I showed a friend here at work the pictures of the blems and told him if he wanted one, I would get one.

BTW - I received my Acies on 02/15/10, and I had seen the announcement about two weeks earlier.

Two incoming!

best regards -

No problems mqqn, I didn't think you were. We're good.
I just wanted it to be clear that neither knife "took" anything from the other.
Both were produced by Kershaw so I would expect some similarities in manufacturing style, fasteners etc...

As for 2BKC (Jason), he is my brother. But there are actually 3 brothers, so I'm not sure how that works out. :D
