Another knife maker with talon Hole

There have been plenty in the last few Blade and Knife magazine.

I pointed 3 out last month.

Seems everybody is doing the hole these days.

Well.....before you all go getting to upset, that knife was listed as non catalog item, along with this statement

I am working on NEW models for the 2008 catalog. You will see prototypes and catalog variants in the next few months as I prepare NEW and improved models for the catalog. Some present models will be canceled, some will be improved, and of course some will stay as the reliable and popular models they have been for years.
NOTE: Prototypes are knives made in order to test the size and shape of a new design. They are fully working knives with the same fit, finish and functional reliability, and warranty as the model that follows them. When design changes and tests are complete, this model will be added to the 2008 catalog, and will be renamed. These proto types are an excellent example of the design process, they are also very rare. ..

The knife in question, was to look like the knife with the top guard on it.....but,
the top guard got amputated due to the hole not being placed correctly......look at the photo of the remaining guard......

So....
I don't plan to make knives that infringe on your Talon hole.....

As for the statement on my web site about some makers naming their own steel......well
tell me what "Surgical Stainless Steel" is.......or any other steel that's not given it's proper name without listing it's spec's.
No big deal except it does make the selection more difficult.

So please don't worry, I will NEVER make that mistake again.
I have always admired Busse and his knives, and DO respect the time and effort which goes into designs etc.

Since people have been making knives for 5000 yr's + it is a bit difficult to never make any thing that resembles something else, but that's all that happened in this case, so
do what you want about it.....but you'll find little in the way of design piracy here.
As to the double guards with hole's in them....I think I will register them as mine.....No...?

Don't worry too much...there are just a lot of people in this forum with such a pathetic life that they spend all of their free time on the internet and get all riled up over nothing.

Wow, you came in here just to insult us? :thumbdn:

Relentness,

Thanks for the info. Look into trademarking the double hole, what could it hurt? Tops might have beaten you to that one though. The fans of Jerry's knives a very zealous bunch. When ever something like this comes up I always caution that attacks are not to be made. To me it makes sense to just bring it to Jerry's attention and let him handle it. It does no good to pester the maker, it just creates bad blood and invites trolling comments like we have just seen. It spoils the forum and there is enough bad blood and garbage that goes on in the knife world as it is. Now I have no official ties to Busse, so I can't speak for him, but your explanation makes sense to me and it sounds like there was no intent to infringe. Knives are such an old tool that it is hard to come up with something that hasn't been though of before. I run into the same thing making sheaths. Good luck in your efforts and thank you for being civil.

This comment was completely uncalled for. No one was calling anyone names, or getting "riled" up until you came along. I do not appreciate veiled personal attacks or attempts to start a "flame war".

Relentless Knives posted their explanation which I'm sure Jerry appreciates.

If Geneepi hadn't posted this thread would have probably turned to a fruitful conversation/discussion about Relentless Knives, however, now I'm just going to lock it.

Geneepi, come one. Trolling comments do nothing for this forum or any other. You support for Relentlessknives could have been just as easily conveyed in an email to him. Consider that in the future. The internet is an imperfect and ugly enough place to communicate without that sort of thing.

Sorry Eric, I didn't mean to step on your toes there.
